HomeMy WebLinkAboutMayor Monthly Report June 19, 2010.PDFJuly 19,2010 Honorable Kate Supron Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Monthly Report - June, 2010 We were pretty steady in June with a total of 44 qalls. There were 19 calls in the Village of Cayuga Heights, 24 calls in the Town of Ithacp and 1 mutual aid request. We had 25 EMS runs and 19 fire runs. We had an increase in the number of calls in the Town of Ithaca this past month. We attribute this to the large number of calls to the Northeast Elementary School. For several days in June they had a problem with their alarm system causing multiple alarm activations. It was finally tracked down to a faulty heat detector head by the alarm company. Training slowed down in June. We did Road Ralfy training in June. Road Rally consists of the three heavy trucks filled witti firefighters doing a "scavenger hunt" through the district. Everybody takes turns fillin$ the driver and officer roles. We have ten locations throughout the district that the crews have to f,rn$ and then perform firefighting skills at each station. Every truck must obey all traffic laws and each team needs to perform the skills conectly to be able clear the st[tion. The simple rule is that f,rrst team back to the station with all tasks complete is the winner. Thir is a fun training that reinforces skills and promotes team work. The schedule came out for the Fall Firefighter 1 class in June. Most of the mernbers of the spring t'ecruit class are enrolled in the class. They are all excited about taking the class becausb many of them have stafied their interior checklists and need the class to get promoted. The SCBA compressor was delivered at the end of June. It is fully installed and we will receive training on the unit in early Jtrly. It is an 'amazing piece of equipment and we are extremely pleased to be putting it i1t service. We placed the order for the attack and supply fire hose and a ventilation fun that was discussed at the June Board Meeting. Several fire truck vendors have visit{d the station to look over 8202 and take photos of the truck in preparation for submitti{rg bids from the spec. Bid opening is August 3'o. Bids will presented to the Board at fhe August meeting. We went to the New York States Fire Chiefs Show in Verona od June 1l'n and spoke with all the truck vendors who werre there. We sent bids to seved vendors who requested copies. The fire station parking lot will be sealed and striped in early July. All of the heavy trucks will be going out for pump test in July. We take the trucks to Horseheads and Tyler Fire Service does the required annual testing and servi{e on the truok pumps. All of our fire hose will also be tested on July 23'o at the station. Sincerely, George Tamborelle Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent We are gearing up for our fall recruit program. It Dave Openshaw has compiled a list of people who have expressed interest in joining the fire department. We will be sending out email reminders to those who have contactpd us. As students come back in late August we will be actively recruiting on campus for potential members. We are planning on the fall recruit class to start in mid September. We will have two open bunker rooms in mid Jul$'. We have two very strong candidates who have applied for these open rooms at the time of this report. Fire Council will discuss the eligible candidates at our July meefing and fill the rooms. Our summer bunkers are doing a greatjob. Every year we hafe students who decide to stay in Ithaca for the summer. These members are allowed tcj move into the ovemight rooms at the station and act as "summer bunkers"l This ensures that they have housing and allows us to have reliable coverage over the summer. All three of these members are EMTs.
