Fax: (607) 257-3474 April5,2010 I'o: The Honorable Mayor Gilmore Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Re: Report of the Police Deparfment for March 2010 During the month of March there were 134 complaints reported to the police department. There were also 5 motor vehicle accidents investigated. There were 37 traffic tickets issued and 41 parking tickets written. T'here were 3 felony complaints reported in March. One was for Burglary, two were for Grand Larceny. T'he Burglary took place at a fraternify. It was reported that someone entered the building through a window and stole an expensive porrrait. There are no suspects at this time, but the case is pending while being investigated. One Grand Larceny was a report of a large wooden play structure stolen from a resident's backyard. About a week after the incident was reported, the play structure had been found in a field, destroyed. There are no suspects, but the case is still being investigated. The other Grand Larceny report was regarding a stolen credit card. A subject stole a credit card and used it numerous times. That person has been identified and arrested. There were 3 misdemeanors reported: one for a bad check, one for petit larceny, and one for criminal mischief. A check was retumed to a business with insufficient funds. A call was made and a letter was written to notifu the person who wrote the check. This is a pending investigation. A resident filed a report that someone entered her vehicle and stole her belongings. There are no suspects at this time. The crimhal mischief was a report of a vehicle driving tkough a resident's lawn, damaging the grass. There are no suspects. There were 6 violations reported in the month of March: 5 for disorderly conduct, and one for.trespass. Four of the disorderly conduct complainls were noise violations, which were handled without incident" The last disorderly conduct complaint was a repoft of a 17 year old child who wasn't listening to his parents. The parents of that child were given necessary advice, but no incident had occurred with the child. The last complaint was a repolt of two unknown males walking around the grounds at Kendal who did not belong there. This is an ongoing investigation. There were 4 village ordinance complaints received, all of which were dog control issues. Each issue has been handled appropriately. During the month of March there were a total of 110 miscellaneous complaints heLndled within the police department. In the month of March, Sgt Steinmetz and Officer Lanning participated as judges in the annual drug quiz for TST BOCES at the Rite Aid Drug Quiz Show" Sgt Steinmetz also participated in the Focus Day Event, which is an opportunity for students to talk with professionals about different career choices. Lastiy, Sgt Steinmetz attended the AR-15 Armorers School for Rifles at IPD. During the month of March the full time officers worked a total of 93.5 hours of overtime and the part time officers worked 113.5 hours.
