Re: Report of the Police Department for January 2010
For the month of January, there were l38 complaints reported to the police department. There were also 9
motor vehicle accidents investigated, There were 63 traffic tickets issued and 6 parking tickets written as
well.
For the month of January, there were nfelony complaints reported.
There were a total of 6 misdemeanors reported: four for petit larceny and two for criminal mischief. Two of
the larcenies were similar in nature. Ini one circumstance a victim had their wallet stolen fi-om their room
inside a fraternity house where he lives; In the other circumstance, a victim had their cell phone stolen from
their room inside a fraternity house, wl'ere he lives. Neither victim had any suspect information. A resident
reported her unsecured vehicle had been entered and some personal items were stolen. There are no
suspects. The last larceny involved and orange traffic cone that was stolen shortly after being put near a
pothole to avoid anyone else driving over the hole. A resident reported his mailbox had been damaged by
unknown persons. Another resident reported her fence had been damaged by unknown persons.
There were 4 violations reported for disorderly conduct. Three of the violations were noise complaints. The
other violation was an issue with a few(village residents and the new TCAT bus route. A resident who was
moving out of the village had a large moving truck in their driveway, partially sticking out into the street.A
resident on the same street parked their vehicle opposite the truck, which caused a traffic concern for not
only the TCAT bus, but also emergencies vehicles. The way he had parked left no room for a large vehicle
to pass through the area. The resident had agreed to move his vehicle without any problems. During the
time the officer was speaking to the resident regarding his vehicle being moved, other village residents
came out of their houses to voice their concerns with the new TCAT route as well. The officer explained to
the residents that this was something TCAT had put into effect, not the Village of Cayuga Heights;
therefore they should voice their concerns with TCAT.
There were 3 village ordinance complaiints received, all were dog control issues. Each issue was handled
without further problems. During the month of January, there were 115 miscellaneous complaints handled
within the police department.
During the month of January, Chief Boyce attended a one day Glock Armorer recertification course. Sgt
Steinmetz attended the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Child Passenger Safety Technician
Training Course. This was a four day course which taught proper safety laws and regulations regarding
child safety seats. Officers Lanning and Lansing attended'a two day Property/Evidence Room Management
Course. This course taught the legal ramifications, regarding handling property and evidence. Chief Boyce
conducted a tour of the police department, along with fingerprinting, for the local cub scouts (our future
leaders of tomorrow). All officers in the department conducta,'d SIMS training with all other area law
enforcement agencies.
During the month of January, the full time officers worked a total of-1O15 hours of overtime and the part
time officers worked 117 hours.
Sincerely,. ---
