HomeMy WebLinkAboutFire Department Monthly Report - Sept 2010.PDFOctober 12,2010 F{onorable Kate Supron Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Monthly Report - September,2}L} We actually picked up the pace in September at the fire station with a total of 58 calls for the month. There were 33 runs in the Village of payuga Heights, 23 runs in the Town of Itlraca and2 mutual aid requests. We had37 EMS calls and2I fire calls. Once again the majority of our runs are EMS related. One the final day of the month we had the lengthy rain storm go through the area which resulted in numerous calls for flooded basements. For these calls we respond to the location of thg call with a crew and our pumps. We have two kinds of pumps in the department that we use to remove water. We have electric sump pumps, the kind that a plumber usually installs in a residence. These pumps are good for up to several inches of water in a basement. We will usually set these pumps in place and have the home owner kBep an eye on the water level and call us when they are done with the unit. If there is morF then a few inches of water we will use our gas powered pumps. These units can move t0 or more gallons of water a minute. If we are using these pumps on a job we have a cre;w of firefighters who man the pump for the duration of tlhe detail. Average tilne per baserpent pumping detail is about one hour. Training is in :full swing for the fpll. We had great burn training at the tower in September. It was a good way to get everybody back into training mode for the year. In September we also did a Skills Drills night at thej station to refamiliarrze eyerybody with our truck mounted equipment and tools. EMS training for the month was on airway management in the adult and pedialric patient. This training was taught by Rescue Director Adam Breslin and Lt. Will Waller. We went over airway anatomy and emergsncy airway management. Upboming trai4ing events include our Recruit Class on October 23'o an<Lan Autism Awarenbss Lecture that we are holdine at the station that is open to all county EMS personnel. We have installed a new audio visubl system iri the training room at the station. This system includes a Iarge wall mounled television and a ceiling mounted power point projector. We are pleased with this flroject as it will allow us more flexibility f6r multi media presentations during training. This project was nded using 2%o money from Fire Council. We are hoping to move flirward with the E202 project at this months Board Meeting. We are ready to schedule d pre build conference with the vendor to finalize the truck design and compartment spacgs. We hope the board will be able to approve the project at the October meeting and authorizethe $4ayor to sign the contract for the truck. Sincerely, George Tamborelle Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent At the company meeting on October 3'd we apcepted 14 new members into the fire department. Their training will begin on Octobe1 Z{d atthe station. We are very pleased with this group' There are seven men and seven women in the class. We have six local residents in this group. Two of the new membqrs arc ayeady EMTs and four more are currently taking an EMT class. A11 of them are ijnterested in fire and EMS training. This is a fantastic group and we look forward to workihg with them through the fall.
