Subj: Hearing on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement of a Deer Remediation
Plan
1. Since this and the previous administrations have continually called for Deer
Remediation by lethal means the village has become divisive and has destroyed
the community spirit. We now have a split community:
a. Those who have expressed that the only remediation is killing deer
b. And those who do not and believe that there has to be a better approach
that would entail working with neighboring communities as part of the
remediation effort.
2. So that the board may know, I do not give permission for our property to be used
for any purpose of this program nor do I give permission for the discharge of a
firearm within 500 feet of our home.
3. There is no guarantee that if the bait and shoot plan is adopted that a stray
projectile will not become a lethal object to people or pets.
4. If a deer is wounded that animal can become a danger to drivers since the animal
will in all probability run away very frightened.
5. How can the number of deer left to survive be defined as 20? Exactly how many
deer do we have in the village? Since the mayor claimed in her television
interview on WSTM that there are too many deer and has been claiming this for
over a year- it is time that we know exactly how many deer there are.
6. I would like to know how much public monies our mayor and the board of
trustees have spent on the "Deer Remediation Issue"?
7. Why are the mayor and the board of trustees not concerned about the villages
infrastructure, such as sidewalks for all neighborhoods so that adults and school
children can walk safely and not have to walk on our roadways. But I guess that
would take monies away from their wanting to kill a living creature who does
them no harm.
8. Why is the mayor and the board of trustees more concerned about maintaining
divisiveness within the village than creating a harmonious place to live?
9. How long a time frame is the board of trustees allowed to commit public funds?
Are they allowed to commit future administrations to this expense and tax
burden?
