Village Mayor and Trustees,
We attended the meeting at Cayuga Heights School last week and the number of
people speaking against the current remediation plan showed that the village Trustees
do not have a clear mandate to proceed with such a controversial method of control.
This plan will create a long-term divisiveness in the village and we urge you to seek
a compromise rather than take a forceful "majority rule" approach. You do not represent
a large part of the residents here and in good conscience should not proceed with the
net and bolt idea.
A revised Fence Ordinance will help address immediate concerns and is a sensible
first step.
All the issues relating to the deer problem could be addressed in a humane manner,
and I urge you to postpone action and revisit methods of sterilization, which were clearly
beginning to be effective.
We have expressed our views to you before, with no acknowledge or response.
Being a lifelong resident of this village, I am extremely disappointed in the
unenlightened governance apparent right now. I strongly object to having my village tax
dollars put to this use, nor would I allow the brutal culling to take place within 500 feet of
my property.
Please set a higher standard and devise a deer remediation plan that all
communities facing this problem could emulate.
