We had 28 calls in the Village of Cayuga Heights, 12 in the Town of Ithaca and 3 mutual aid requests. We had 27 EMS calls and 16 fire calls. It proved to be a prelty steady month for the department with many routine EMS and fire calls. On the 12th of November we were called to Jessup Road on the Cornell Campus for a dryer fire. First ariving crews found the dryer to indeed be on fire. The response was rapid enough that crews were able to extinguish the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher and prevented any extension into the walls of the structure. The firefighters then assisted with ventilation to remove the smoke and turned the scene over to Cornell EH&S units. In November we held two more Recruit Training Sessions. The first of two November sessions was held at the station. On this day we taught all the recruits the basics of ladder raising and placement, gas and electric powered tools, reinforced the hydrant skills they learned on the first day and gave them basic instruction in accident vehicle stabilization and extrication. The second session was held at the burn tower in late November. At this session we continued with the skills they learned in sessions 1 & 2 and added practical applications of those skills. On this day they not only started power tools but caried the tools up ladders and used them to cut holes on the roof simulator at the training center. We had them all don their gear and SCBA and then took them into the bum tower and lit fires to show them how fire grows and progresses through its stages. This drill also allows them to feel the heat of the fire and see the smoke bank down on top of them and teaches them that their gear will protect them in this hazardous environment. We use this drill to see if any of the recruits get overly uncomfortable in this situation. We were happy to see smiles on all of their faces when they came out of the building. At the end of the month Assistant Rescue Director JP Couce held an EMS skills training. We encourage all members of the department to attend these trainings to get them involved in the EMS side of our operations. In Movember our team of "Mo Growers" led by FF Scott Martling grew some startling displays of facial hair in support of Prostate and Testicular Cancer Awareness Month through the Live Strong Foundation. Our team managed to raise almost $4,000 for the cause. Our "Man of Movember", the top fundraiser, was FF Ryan Harrington. This is a great annual event for a fantastic cause. We are all pretty pleased that it's over though. I have recently been in contact with KME to work out the final details on the new fire truck. I was told that our truck is scheduled to go into production in mid January and is scheduled to be done by the end of April. We are cautiously optimistic at this time line. With the 300 day deadline we gave the manufacturer they have until early August to deliver the truck. What I suspect will happen is that the truck will be done in late April or early May and they will take it to the Pennsylvania Fire Expo in Harrisburg for display then deliver it to us. The Harrisburg show is one of the largest fire expos in the country. We are looking ahead to the spring and at this time we are planning on running a spring 2011 recruit class. We would look at taking less then 10 new members for this class, focusing on potential members who will be around through the summer to continue to train. In the fall we would look at a larger recruit class. Our membership is strong and morally is high at the station. Good trainings and high call volumes seem to keep everybody in good spirits. Sincerely, George Tamborelle Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent W:13. :sszTofal cars - 43 pi1e 6a6$ EMS calls - 27Total Mutual Aid - 3 Calls in the Village - 28 Calls in the Town _ 12 1112&11ts_Fim Recertification 1116 - Recruit Class 2 1117 - Fire Gouncil 11120 - Recruit Glass 3 11130 - EMS Training - Skiils UPCOMING EVENTS| 1215 - Fire Council 1218 - Fire Training - FAST 12116 - Fire Training - Fire Jeopardy 1l?9 - Depa:'tment Mqndatory cisttA Training and cpR certification4123 - Annual Installation Bahquet -
