Minutes of October 13, 2016 meeting
Present: Roxanne Marino, Robert Oswald, Sue Poelvoorde
Excused: Andy Hillman, Bara Hotchkiss, Brice Smith
Guest: Don Ellis
Roxanne called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. and acknowledged that a quorum was not
present.
Climate Smart Communities
Roxanne shared information about the Town’s interest in participating with a few other
Tompkins County towns to become a climate smart community. There are many requirements
in the program, which is being administered by the New York State Departments of
Environmental Conservation, Health, State and Transportation; State Public Service Commission
and State Energy and Research Development Authority. Cornell Cooperative Extension has
hired an intern to assist the communities.
Some of the tasks on the list may be suitable for the CSAC group to work on. Roxanne will
continue to report out on the towns’ progress with the program.
Distribution Line Map Overlay
Roxanne shared the first version of a map prepared by the Tompkins County GIS unit that the
CSAC committee recommended be prepared for the town boards (Town Board, Planning,
Agriculture Protection and Zoning Appeals) illustrating the location of electric distribution lines
that could accommodate the connection of a community-scale solar farm.
The committee discussed changes to the maps that would make them more readable and
relevant to their use by the boards. Roxanne will convey the information to Darby Kiley, the
Town’s planner.
Potential Fairgrounds Project
Don Ellis shared information about a tree replacement project for the Trumansburg Fairgrounds
that he, Andy Hillman, and Jerry Reynolds have started to prepare. He noted that there may be
grant money available for the project and asked if the Town of Ulysses could be the project
sponsor. As the project develops, he will return to the CSAC to share additional information.
Meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
