SOURCES: Deed Search: Tompkins County Clerk Office New Topographical Atlas of Tompkins County_,New Yor4 from Actual Surveys especially for this Atlas, Philadelphia: Stone and Stewart, 1866. 22. THEME: #11. The original roofline has been extended to cover a six foot wide, two story addition that projects the length of the south wall. A one story frame addition has been added to the rear of the garage, attached to the west side of the house. Original windows have been replaced with twelve -over -one double -hung sashes on the east wall and one -over -one double -hung sashes on the west wall. The roof that projects over the main entrance appears to be a twentieth century addition. A concrete block -chimney has been added to the west wall of the main structure, projecting from the meeting line of the addition and the house. #17. A limited set -back results from the early 1950's widening of New York State Route 96. The space between the house and the commercial structure to the south-east is only four feet. The house is one structure north of the intersection of the Jacksonville Road and New York State Route 96. While the immediate area is mixed commercial and residential, in its scale, style and set -back, the residence is integrated with surrounding structures. 018. This two and a half story structure was originally a three bay wide rectangular house with a moderately pitched roof with its gable end facing the road. The house retains some original twelve over eight double -hung sash windows and some remaining wood louvered shutters. The trim above and below the windows projects slightly, though the door trim is plain. Greek Revival style details include gable end returns and a moderately wide frieze board. A brick chimney projects from the rear of the south slope of the roof. #20. This structure has accommodated a variety of uses during its long history of changing ownership. The description of the property on the 6/10/1935 deed reads: "being the same premises C.C. Mattison and Arthur M. Holman purchased of Neal Genung known as the Old Tavern premises." (book 237, page 176). This is not known to have been a tavern on this site. However, it is across from the site of the Mattison Tavern that was at the northwest apex of the junction of New York State Route 96 and the Jacksonville Road. On 8/18/1864, C.C. Mattison and Arthur M. Holman conveyed the deed to John Van Buskirk. Van Buskirk was both a cabinet maker and an undertaker. His shop was located on the ground floor of the building. L.oumia Lee acquired the property on 8/23/1877 (book 4 page 310) from J.J. Ayers Durling. Twentieth century owners included: Ray and Bessie Wilson who conveyed the deed to Frand and Anna Foote on 6/10/1935 (book 237, page 176). In the 1940's, Martin and Fay Moe acquired the property and operated a small grocery store from the first story. Eventually, the business out grew its space and they moved to the site of the old Mattison and Loomis store. On 10/25/1981, the deed was conveyed to James Moe and Joy Smith. James Moe is the grandson of Martin Moe.
