This store building is set close to the road at the intersection of Jacksonville Road and New York State Route 96. Its mass dominates the houses to its north and south. Of the four corners at this intersection, two have 20th century buildings (a gas station and an antiques store). The third corner is an altered house. #18. The white vinyl -siding rectangular building is two stories in height with a gabled roof. On the south elevation is a two story addition just large enough to accommodate a flight of stairs, with door on the east side and two windows on the south side. The front elevation of the store features a central recessed entrance flanked by two plate glass windows. On the second story, two double -hung, six -over -six windows frame a "picture window". There is a projection from the gable end which was used in a pulley system in the past. Within the entrance the double wooden doors each have two panes of glass with rounded corners. The two lights above door are of the same form. Concrete steps lead up to the door. Similarly scaled signs surmount each plate glass window; below the window, siding has been applied in a vertical manner. Except for the south stair addition, the north and south elevations are similar, with irregularly spaced windows under the eaves, most double hung with six lights over one. On the south side is another door at the rear of the building. #20. On an 1853 map, this store building is marked "Gutes Store"; on an 1866 map, the store is labeled "Mattison and Loomis". Cornelius C. Mattison and George W. Loomis bought this property from William and Antoinette A. Pierson and Arthur M. and Martha Holman in 1858 or 1860 (Book 67 page 160 or Book 1 page 46). According to John Selkreg's Landmarks of Tompkins County, p. 43, Arthur Holman "was a merchant and bookkeeper through life". After Mattison and Loomis, John Kerst ran the store, though his father Isaac owned it. John Kerst lived in the Greek Revival style house at 592 Jacksonville Road. On July 12, 1897, John Kerst bought the store at an auction to settle his father's estate (Book 148, Page 289). Edwin S. Johnson took over the store from Kerst on May 1, 1899 (Book 153, Page 145); Johnson was also postmaster and lived in a Greek Revival style house at 596 Jacksonville Road. Subsequent owners have been as follows: Ai Lyon from Edwin S. and Anna R. Johnson, January 16, 1932 (Book 227, page 461) Albert H. and Anna W. Webster from Ai Lyon May 13, 1944 (Book 273, page 71) Martin J. and Fay L. Moe from Albert H. Webster, April 18, 1947 (Book 298, Page 96) Aldo J. and Lillian Casciotti from Fay L. Moe, June 9, 1970 (book 487, page 403) "Moe's National Brands" was the last general store in operation at this location. #21. Fagan, L. Map of Tompkins County, Philadelphia: Horace and Charles T.
