INTERRELATIONSHIP OF BUILDING AND SURROUNDINGS: (Indicate if building or structure is in an historic district) This house is situated about 4e5 miles west on.Perry City Road from New York State Route 96 and is in a sparsely populated area. To its left about one hundred feet is a well --preserved - Greek Revival home, while to the right is 18. OTHER NOTABLE FEATURES OF BUILDING AND SITE (including interior features if known): This is a 2 story Victorian farmhouse following an irregular plan that is generally rectangular. Its medium -pitched roof has wide eaves and is made up of two gables perpendicular to each other. Attached to the gable.pro"jecting west is -a two- story section which extends north and has a rather flat roof. SIGNIFICANCE circa 1$85 \ 19. DATE OF INITIAL CONSTRUCTION: ARCHITECT: BUILDER: 20.' HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE: In a Farm -Journal article from about-.1959•it states that a house• previously"on this site. was torn down in 1885'and the present one -built from parts of.. the earlier -structure. This would perhaps explain the nine over six light window house the north gable. 'Mr. Gonet also in- dicated that this ouse was the "tenant"house" to the Greek Revival residence at 579 Perry City Road. If this were so, then the employers of the tenant farmers would, have been Frank_ and Julia Carmen who lived at the latter address from 1881 to 1941. 21. SOURCES Conversation with owner, IBob Gonet, October, 1983 Conversation with the owner of 579 Perry_City.,,Road Mr. Doug Trenchard 2.2, THENJE:\_ A Farm Journal Magazine . circa 1959, -property of .1VIr . and . Mrs . Trenchard Gonet page 2 17. Interrelationship of Buildings to Surroundings: an empty lot. A house is further west on the same side of the road but is partly hidden from the Gonets by a stand of trees. Their house direcly faces a large field which stretches east and west. Their property has a number of trees in the rear. The house is placed about fifteen feet from Perry _ity Road. 18. Potable Features: A small one-story section is attached to the west corner of the north end of the house. The foundation is constructed of rectangular, regularly -shaped stones and mortar. On the first floor of the facade the entrance is off - center to the left, with a window to the left and two to the right of the door. All of the windows are tall, narrow, double -hung windows with two over two lights and have functioning shutters. Each window has a plain surround with a projecting edge at the top. L'iost of the facade is covered by a porch which has a gently sloping hip roof supported by three slender colonettes. This porch may be a slightly later addition since it has raised walls covered with shingles. The gable end projecting west has two windows on the lower level and one on the upper level, each matching those on the facade. A thin cornerboard separates the gable from the section attached to it. Here, the four windows are smaller and are double -hung with one over one panes and are not shuttered. The roof of the gable projects farther than the attached section. The eaves of the roof are not as wide as the rest; this section may not be part of the original construction of the house. The east side of the house has an exterior cinderblock chimney. Two windows on the second story and one below match those on the facade. The window to the left of the chimney on the first floor is boarded over. There are two bipartite casement windows in the foundation on the east wall. The rear of the house on the east side has two modern windows joined together with one over one panes. On the second story of the north gable end is a window much older than the rest; it is a narrow, double -hung window with nine over six panes. This section to the right;;of the 0 onet page 3 18. continued: north gable has an enclosed porch which has three windows joined together on each side of the porch. This has a cinderblock foundation and a gently sloping shingled roof. A large shed made of rough-hewn boards is on the east side of the house. On the west side is a board and batten garage/barn with large sliding doors.
