The two-story projecting gable end with pediment is supported by four tapered wooden piers set on squared articulated bases, each decorated with rectangular recessed panels. The Greek Revival portico is a later addition from an unknown date, possibly added when the building was moved from the rear of the lot to closer to Main Street, pre - 1860. 6/6 windows with double -hung wood sash windows are visible on the street (north) and east facades, covered with aluminum storm windows. The building fagade is sheathed with yellow vinyl siding post -76; the vinyl was also utilized to infill the pediment. A concrete block chimney is on the east fagade. The modern wooden staircase flush with the main (north) fagade provides access to the second -floor apartments through a doorway that likely replaced an original window. The simplified wooden paneled first floor door surround is of the Greek Revival style. The current door is a modern replacement. Wooden first -floor balustrades were added post -1976. Mid -20th century wrought iron railings flank stone steps leading to an elevated porch on the north fagade. The building shares a gable roof at the south facade with adjoining 64 E. Main and a narrow alley runs between the two buildings. Additional additions include a rear (south) one-story enclosed porch and a one-story open porch. The southwest corner has a two-story wing, added ca. 1960. Prior to this addition, a driveway connected 66 E. Main to 64 E. Main. Compiled by Katelin Olson, August 15, 2014 N.Y. Historic Resource Inventory Form - Continuation Sheet Address: 66 East Main Street Village/Hamlet: Trumansburg Since surveyed in 1976, the building has lost considerable integrity due to the addition of vinyl siding. It's unknown if the original clapboard was retained under the siding or removed. The inclusion of a staircase on the street (fagade) disrupts the integrity of the fagade. Narrative Description of Significance (continued) The Tompkins County Real Property database indicates that the 64 and 66 E. Main are combined into a single tax parcel and are situated on .17 acres. Previous architectural surveys concluded that this is one of the oldest buildings in the Village and may have originally served as a barn or other commercial building. It was constructed ca. 1828, likely by David Trembley. (See form for 64 E. Main.) The main block of the building is very similar in form and massing to the adjacent 64 N. Main, and the ownership history suggests these buildings were owned and managed as a pair. Historical records and interviews suggest that both buildings were relocated from the rear of the property prior to 1860.The Greek Revival details (pediment, piers, 6/6 windows, door surround) were all likely added after the building was moved and reflect its conversion to a residential purpose. Early owners of the property included Abner Treman (namesake of Trumansburg) and Hermon Camp, a highly influential local businessman and significant property owner. In 1855, Lewis Rigg sold the properties to Daniel Elmore. In 1894, Emmons Williams sold both to Cornell University, which used them to house workers employed at Cornell's property at Willard, NY. On November 15, 1900, Cornell sold the property (along with 64 E. Main) to Orlando Newell, father-in-law of Edna Newell (owner as of December 1976).
