Narrative Description of Property
1847 Trumansburg Road (constructed 1825-1840) and the "Old Colonial Church"
retain the greatest architectural integrity of the early days of Jacksonville. Similarly, both
are under considerable distress due to lack of maintenance and care.
Constructed in the Greek Revival style, the residence retains the majority of its
historical integrity, with the exception of many replacement double -hung wood sash
windows. Located close to road on the east side of Trumansburg Road/Route 96, the
three -bay, two -and -a -half, side -gable house has as simple, thick entablature and square
pilasters. The door is surrounded by a full transom and side lights, which have been
paneled at the bottom, as is the door. The house retains a very thin friezeboard and
entablature, with returns on the gable ends. A flush -gable brick interior chimney is on the
northeast gable end, and the roof is clad with seamed metal. The northwest fagade of the
main block may originally have had windows, but the seams of the clapboard suggest that
A one-story section is attached perpendicular to the northeast facade of the main
block of the house and is separated by one of the thin corner boards. Two windows with
1/1 lights flank a door with twelve glass panes and a china knob on the northwest facade.
The window to the southeast has a double -hung wood sash with 9/6 lights. A brick
chimney is centrally placed in this section, and the roof is clad with seamed metal. The
southeast fagade has a side -porch that runs the length of the addition, defined by a
wooden balustrade and a flat roof supported by posts.
The far rear (northeast) portion of the building complex appears to have been the
most recently occupied, indicated by painted window sills, frames and double -hung wood
windows. The small, one -and -a -half story Greek Revival style addition has returns and
wood singles. The clapboard structure has a wood water table and an open porch with a
shed roof on the northeast fagade.

Narrative Description of Significance
Little is known about this architecturally important structure. It was one of a
cluster of Greek Revival style residences constructed around the important commercial
intersection of Trumansburg Road (Route 96) and Jacksonville Road. The residence used
to be flanked with similar houses, which were demolished in the 201h century. The first
notion of the house was in the Map of Tompkins County (1853)
