UPDATE FROM TOWN SUPERVISOR. KATELIN OLSON:
Greetings, Ulyssians!
Summers in the Finger Lakes are uniquely magical, but they certainly are not lazy or laid back! Like the
ants getting ready for winter, Ulyssians pack in events and activities into this all -too -fleeting period.
At the Town, we've also been hurriedly preparing for the fall, and there are lots of exciting youth and
adult recreation opportunities. For youth, we have tennis and cross county, as well as a FREE Community
Action Theatre program for 6-9th graders. All youth and adult classes can be found HERE.
I am VERY excited to announce that we are launching adult non -sport activities this fall, in addition to our
very popular adult soccer, basketball, pickle ball and volleyball programming. Join me in welcoming our
new Ulysses Community Activities Coordinator Amy Puryear (bio below) who has organized an exciting
slate of activities. From writing workshops and nature walks, to astrology sessions and yoga, and a great
array of crafts, there's definitely something for everyone to love. Have an idea for future programming or
have questions? Amy can be reached at adultrec(@townofuly.s.sesny.gov.
And finally, no newletter this week would be complete without a celebratory cheer for the
175th Trumansburg Fair! We are so very fortunate to have Trumansburg Fair Board caring for their
amazing property. This year, my youngest child took the same pictures on rides that his elder siblings took
about 5 minutes ago ... or, more accurately, 5-10 years ago. I know those annual photos are a tradition for
many families, and I hope you find time to stop by before it packs up on Monday.
One thing I hope NOT to make an annual traditon? I lost my cell phone TWICE, in two completely
separate incidents, on Wednesday. Both times anonymous heroes turned it in. It's impossible to not see
that double -kindness as just a wonderful reflection of the entire vibe of the fair and the people of our
community. Thank you, thank you, to whomever you might be.
NEW ADULT COMMUNITY RECREATION PROGRAMS:
Amy Bess Puryear recently became the Ulysses Community Activities Coordinator. Amy moved to
Trumansburg in 1998, shortly after graduating from Ithaca College with her Bachelor's of Vocal Music
Education degree. She fondly remembers her first time visiting Trumansburg, way back when, on a
Wednesday night at the Rongo, surrounded by a vibrant community, great music and a feeling of
belonging. Since then, she has immersed herself in our community while raising her son Willoughby who
is starting college this fall and following his baseball dreams. This new position with the Town is a dream
job for Amy, as she hopes to bring people together through fun and educational activities, classes,
workshops, presentations and more.

through the medium of theatre, while empowering them to develop their voices and engage their
community in impactful theatre -based conversations about significant social issues.
The program is free and no theatre experience is required. Participants may participate in whatever way
they feel comfortable. Kerr Mesner, consultant, facilitator, educator, and trained actor, brings decades of
experience working with young people in schools and community organizations through Heart Story

weather impacts across New York's varied coasts and water bodies. Photos are linked to real-time

training opportunities and hundreds of job opportunities.
What's changing

to them.
• Visit tompkins-opportunity.org to explore volunteer, training and employment opportunities.
• Contact Tompkins County DSS at (607) 274-5680 with questions about their individual
circumstances.
Businesses, nonprofits and community organizations can:
• Post volunteer and training opportunities on Tompkins Opportunity.
• Share the platform with employees, clients, volunteers and community members.

flooding, and hazardous weather impacts across New York's varied coasts and water bodies.
When you submit a photo, it is automatically linked to real-time weather, river, and tidal gauge data to
