COUNTY LEGISLATOR UPDATES:

report which includes updates on:

• veterans' services,
• pollinators,
• data center moratoria, and more.
Contact her at 607-793-0303 or rostlund(@tompkins-co.org.
SHELTER DONATIONS:
Amendments to Section 109 of the NYS Agriculture and Markets Law require local governments to
include space on dog license applications for owners to make voluntary contributions to animal shelters.
Per state law, all dogs aged 4 months or older are required to be licenses in the town or city where they
reside for 30 days or more. Rabies vaccination is also required. Licenses are valid for 1 year and then must
be renewed. For more information on dog licensing in the Town of Ulysses, visit
httpl/www.townofulyssesny goy departments/dept-clerk/clerk-doa-control/
The Town of Ulysses contracts with the SPCA of Tompkins County for dog control. For lost or found
animals, call 607-592-6773.
2026 ANNUAL JACKSONVILLE COMMUNITY PICNIC:
From Jacksonville Community Association:
Hello Neighbors, the Jacksonville Community Association and the Jacksonville United Methodist Church
are co -sponsoring our 2026 annual Community Picnic on Sunday August 9th from 12-2pm at the park on
Swamp College Rd.
Please bring a dish to pass and your place setting if you can. We'll provide regular and vegan hot dogs and
beverages or you can bring your own. There will be picnic tables and additional tables and chairs or you
can bring your own lawn chairs. The Dave Schumann fishing pavilion and the trails will be available.
We'll have corn hole and bocce. Feel free to bring lawn games.
Since parking near the pavilion is limited, please carpool and drop off food and passengers and park at
the church, on Rt. 96 or Swamp College Rd. Please do NOT park behind the old Montessori school- it is
now private property.
Come out to meet new people, reconnect with friends and neighbors, and enjoy summer with good food
in our beautiful community park.

WATER TESTING ASSISTANCE:
In 2025, the Community Science Institute (CSI), launched the Water Testing Assistance Program (WTAP). to
make reliable drinking water testing accessible for households experiencing financial hardship. For private
well users, routine testing is the only way to confirm water is free from harmful contaminants like
bacteria and nitrates —but lab -quality testing can be costly.
Through WTAP, eligible participants receive:
• 50% off CSI's in-house drinking water tests
• Personalized recommendations from scientific staff
View available water tests and fees
Who Can Participate:
• Private households experiencing financial hardship or low-income
• Residents from any municipality or county
• Eligibility is based on self -reporting or referral from trusted partner organizations (e.g., INHS,
TCWH Healthy Neighborhoods Program)
Spanish-speaking staff are available to assist!
For more information, call 607-257-6606 or email info @ communityscience.org
WEBINAR RECORDING: HARMFUL ALGAL BLOOMS IN NEW YORK STATE:
DEC and the Department of Health hosted and recorded a webinar on July 16 to discuss New York State's
approach to addressing harmful algal blooms (HABs), including monitoring, research, mitigation, and
reporting. Watch the recording to learn about the State's ongoing work to ensure public safety and
increase public awareness, where to find resources for HAB identification, and how to stay informed.
