The Town Hall is open from 10am-3pm today if you need to stop in and cool off, use a restroom, drink water, or say "hello"! From: Nancy Zahler Date: July 1, 2026 Subject: Heat Advisory & Cooling Centers Hello all, our County Legislator Rachel Ostlund is sharing the following information for all who need to escape the extreme heat. Please feel free to share it and please check on your vulnerable neighbors to make sure they are safe. If they need a fan and you have an extra, please share or invite them into your AC. And if you know someone who needs this information and they don't have a computer, please either print the relevant information out or tell them their options. Thanks Rachel and thanks to all of you for looking out for one another- that's what community is! Hi all - With the heat wave in full effect, I wanted to share some information - Some CCE folks have made a spreadsheet of all Tompkins County cooling centers, and they've included parking information, which centers accept pets and other accessibility data. It's not fancy, but it at least has updated hours reflecting the upcoming holiday. They have this listed on their page about extreme heat, but here's the spreadsheet link if you want to share it out with your networks: TC Cooling Center Info (updated June 30). Tompkins County Public Library also has a list (slightly more user friendly, but without accessibility/pet info) with accurate hours and links to directions: List: Tompkins County Cooling Centers I Tompkins County Public Library NYS had a list of cooling centers (Find the nearest cooling center near you by visiting the NYS Department of Health Cooling Center website at https: bit.ly/41rT7oh) but I found it less helpful because you need to navigate a couple pages, search by county, and then the information listed does not tell you whether they are closed on Friday for the holiday. This NYS link keeps getting shared in press releases, but I find the CCE or TCPL links much more helpful for residents. As you all probably know, the state has extended swimming hours at some of the state parks, and the swim areas at Buttermilk and Treman are open until 10AM -7PM through Friday, and Taughannock is open 11AM - 813M through Friday. I know each municipality has its own plan for extreme weather events, but if you have particular concerns or requests from the county side of things, please let me know. I know it will be a difficult few days for many folks in the county who lack adequate access to AC.
