See information below from Tompkins County regarding wildfire smoke and air quality from their Juhr 15 nress release:
High quality masks, such as N95 and KN95 masks, can be worn outdoors to reduce the inhalation of fine particles from the air. N95s areavailable to the public, at no cost, at our office at 55 Brown Road, Ithaca NY, for
pick up during office hours Monday -Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. Cloth masks and surgical masks are not effective at reducing inhalation of pollutants.

This position will primarily provide important, free and direct positive youth development programming to Sth - 8th graders after school and during the summer. Positive youth development focuses on providing an
inclusive, supportive environment for youth. Programmatic priorities and specific activities are developed in cooperation with youth, the Youth Commission, and Town Staff. Administrative assistance is provided to this
position, allowing the employee to primarily focus on direct service provision. During the school year, primary service hours are between 2:30 and 5:00pm, with flexibility in the total number of weekly hours. Summer
hours may expand. Experience working with and engaging youth is strongly preferred and additional training and support will be provided.
Pay:$23.69/hour

FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS:
The Ulysses Town Board invites community organizations offering services contributing to the health, safety, and welfare of Town of Ulysses citizens to apply for funds for 2027.
Historically, organizations have requested funding between $500 and $5,000, and have provided senior services, arts programs, recreation, and more.
The submission deadline is August 9th, 2026.

Requests will be reviewed as the Town prepares the 2027 budget; please note that funding is not guaranteed. Applicants may be asked to give a brief presentation to Town Board members. Funding notifications will be

Join Eve Snyder, the director of HistoryForge, in an exploration of this digital history project that you too can take part in! For the past decade volunteers have been combining census data, photos, maps, and more to
create a searchable history of local towns —including the families that lived in each house overtime and the businesses that have come and gone.
At the Ulysses Historical Society on Tuesday, July 21, at 7pm.

Celebrate Snake Week]
Did you know that July 13-19 is Snake Week and July 16 is World Snake Day? It's the perfect time to be on the lookout for our legless friends. During the heat of the summer months, snakes of many species will begin to
move out and away from overwintering grounds in search of different habitats: some are moving Into habitat for basking and gestating; some for foraging, nesting, or birthing; or to eventually make their way back to
overwintering habitats. Inevitably, many will encounter a roadway during these movements that they will need to cross to reach these necessary and familiar habitats.
Smaller species such as the eastern ringneck, Dekay's brown, and many juveniles of larger species of snake may be difficult to spot on pavement. Larger species such as eastern milksnake, black racer, and timber
rattlesnake are easier to see and avoid hitting. Many will move out of the road when you approach, but some species will hold their ground.. It is important to remember never to handle a venomous species; simply
waiting for them to cross is an option.
Check out this snake identification chart. If in doubt, contact your county Environmental Conservation Officer for assistance moving a potentially venomous snake.
