UPDATE FROM TOWN SUPERVISOR. KATELIN OLSON:
Greetings, Ulyssians!
The riot of green growth always amazes me after so many months of browns and grays. I found a fun plant identifier app that has
made me actually embrace some of the plants (which I thought were weeds) that keep cropping up in my garden. So what if they
look a bit wild and weedy? I have confirmation they are, in fact, a cultivated species that one of the inhabitants of my house must
have introduced decades ago, and have granted myself permission to terminate the battle. (Looking at you, Green Leaf Anemone.)
Just like the bees, Ulysses is buzzing with activities. From Porch Fest, a bike race, and flea market this weekend, to softball, soccer,
and baseball games, concerts, recitals and art shows around the Trumansburg Central, there's LOTS of things to do. This weekend our
family is all over the place, from Cicero with the TCSD Trap Team for the State Trap Shooting Tournament, to Elkland, PA for soccer,
Seneca Falls for softball, and the high school auditorium for the TCFA dance recital. Regardless of where our travels take us, it's
always wonderful to come back home to Ulysses. (Especially our great coffee and ice cream options that help keep the energy levels
up!)
As a reminder, the Town Board is meeting on Tuesday, June 9 for our regular Town Board meeting. The board packet and link to join
remotely is available here. We are continuing to accept written comments for the public hearing on the Comprehensive Plan, but will
not hold a hearing on Tuesday. Comments can be shared with clerk Ptown ofulyssesnygov.
ASSESSMENT DEPT. OUT AND ABOUT:

AMERICA'S 250TH
The Town Board passed a resolution in support of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. (See

NYS DEC HAB SYSTEM:
DEC's New York Harmful Algal Bloom System (NYHABS) is now active. This system allows citizens to send reports of Harmful Algal
Blooms (HABs) to DEC electronically via a simple user- and mobile phone -friendly form. Citizen sightings and suspected blooms help
provide important data in monitoring and communication.
Visit NYHABS to view locations of freshwater HABs in New York State that were reported in the past week.
When it comes to HABs, DEC encourages New Yorkers to:
• Know it: HABs vary in appearance from scattered green dots in the water, to long, linear green streaks, pea soup, or
spilled green paint, to blue-green or white coloration.
• Avoid it: People, pets, and livestock should avoid contact with floating mats, scum, and discolored water.
• Report it: Report a suspected HAB using the NYHABS online reportine form. Report health concerns related to HABs to
the Department of Health at harmfulalgae@health.nygo_v or contact your local health department.
WATER TESTING ASSISTANCE:
In 2025, the Community Science Institute (CSI) launched the Water Testing Assistance Program (WTAP) to make reliable drinking
water testing accessible for households experiencing financial hardship. For private well users, routine testing is the only way to
confirm water is free from harmful contaminants like bacteria and nitrates —but lab -quality testing can be costly.
Through WTAP, eligible participants receive:
• 50% off CSI's in-house drinking water tests
• Personalized recommendations from scientific staff
View available water tests and fees
Who Can Participate:
• Private households experiencing financial hardship or low-income
• Residents from any municipality or county
• Eligibility is based on self -reporting or referral from trusted partner organizations (e.g., INHS, TCWH Healthy
Neighborhoods Program)
Spanish-speaking staff are available to assist!
For more information, call 607-257-6606 or email info@communityscience.org
CANDIDATES FORUM CANCELLED:
Please note that the candidate forum hosted by the League of Women Voters scheduled for Sunday, June 7 between Democratic
candidates for Ulysses Town Board Rich Goldman and Keith Hannon has been cancelled. For more information, contact LWV at
