IN THIS WEEK'S ULYSSES NEWSLETTER: Town Board Applications Due Today Lifeguard Needed Insecticides & Pollinator Health Food Pantry Open Monday Citizen Preparedness Primary Election Updates Candidates Forum Upcoming Meetings/Hearings Landscaper Needed TOWN BOARD VACANCY APPLICATIONS DUE TODAY: The Town Board is seeking to fill a vacancy through the end of this year (Dec. 31, 2026). For more information and the application, link here. Today (5/29/26) is the deadline to apply. LIFEGUARD NEEDED FOR SUMMER CAMP: The Town of Ulysses Summer Recreation Program is seeking a seasonal lifeguard from July 6th - August 14th. The position is for 20 hours per week, from 11:30-3:30 pm at a rate of $20-25/hour (depending upon experience). Apply through Tompkins Couty at: https://www.tompkinsciviIservice.ore/civiIservice/vacancies INSECTICIDES AND POLLINATOR HEALTH: Dr. Scott McArt, Cornell entomologist, will discuss how we can improve pollinator health without compromising agricultural production at 7pm on June 15, 7:00 pm at the Fellowship Hall, 69 East Main St. Success depends on building interdisciplinary coalitions of knowledge and trust, often while navigating misinformation and disinformation. Come see inside a hive. Honey will be extracted and served! The lecture is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Ulysses Bee Committee. HEALTH ALERT: CHECK FOR TICKS. PREVENT LYME DISEASE & OTHER TICK -BORNE ILLNESSES May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and Tompkins County Whole Health (TCWH) is alerting the community to be aware of the dangers of contracting Lyme Disease and other illnesses as a result of bites from ticks. The New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) has created a video on proper tick removal and a printable card with steps on how to remove ticks. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has developed an interactive tool that will assist individuals on removing attached ticks and determining when to seek health care, if appropriate, after a tick bite. CITIZEN PREPAREDNESS TRAINING: The Citizen Preparedness Corps gives residents the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster or emergency, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre -disaster conditions. Two separate training sessions will be offered: • Wednesday, June 3rd at 6:00pm at the Brooktondale Community Center, 524 Valley Road, Ithaca NY • Tuesday, June 9th at 6:00pm at the Museum of the Earth, 1259 Trumansburg Road, Ithaca NY The Citizen Preparedness Corps is led by the New York National Guard working with experts from the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) and is coordinated with local county emergency management personnel. "Especially with severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it's more important than ever to be prepared and respond accordingly," stated Geoff Dunn, Community Preparedness Coordinator for Tompkins County Emergency Response. "This training program is a great opportunity to learn how to develop family emergency plans and stock up on supplies." Each family that attends will receive one NYS Disaster Preparedness Kit. The training is free of charge, but registration is required at: www.prepare.nygov PRIMARY ELECTION UPDATES: A Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 23 to determine the following candidates for the Nov.3, 2026 ballot. • The Democratic candidate for: o Ulysses Town Board o NYS Comptroller • The Republican candidate for Congress, District 19 Only those registered in the respective parties may vote in a primary.
