All around Ulysses, I feel the same sense of fall urgency as we all prepare ourselves and our spaces for the coming winter. Yet another pile of leaves to rake up, broken branches to collect from Sunday's wind, patio furniture to be stored, cracks to be filled. At Town Hall, we are tackling big projects! At our Town Board meeting on Tuesday, October 28, we'll be holding a record THREE public hearings: the 2026 Preliminary Budget, Smith Woods donation, and a rezoning request for Development District 3 (former Barangus property on Route 96/Halseyville). Please come share your thoughts and opinions on all of these topics. As always, you can attend in person or online, or watch the meeting later on the Ulysses YouTube channel. Finally, a special thank you to Neil and Liz Klohmann and Darcy Branchini, residents of Perry City Road, who I had the pleasure to have a meeting with on Wednesday. Last week, Liz shared a heartfelt, tragic post on Facebook of their beloved dog being struck and killed by a speeding driver on Perry City. I met with them to discuss the process for requesting a speed reduction and other safety mitigations on their road. They are putting together a petition, the necessary first step for any road speed changes that are ultimately decided by the NYS Department of Transportation. Deer hunting (bow only) is permitted in Taughannock Park. "Trumansburg Community Action Theatre" offers youth the opportunity to explore issues of importance to them through theatre games and exercises. To help determine what that should look like, the Town is working with a student group from the Cornell Design Connect program.
