Please share the road, and take care of one another. I have spoken to many residents who are concerned about unsafe speeds, and wanted to make sure residents know that there are ways to collectively mobilize to ask for lower speed limits. The Town has to petition NYS Department of Transportation (DOT) to reduce them, and I have personally supported every neighborhood request made since 2020. This year I met with neighbors about speed concerns around Taughannock State Park, and advocated on behalf of residents to the NYS Department of Transportation. Speeds have been approved to be lowered on Jacksonville (between the park and 96), Gorge, and Taughannock Park. Once they authorize the posting of signs, those speeds will be lowered to between 35 and 45 miles mph, down from 55mph. This summer I spoke to many residents on Waterburg Road about their speed concerns, and about the process to petition for a speed study. Last Tuesday, a petition by the residents of Waterburg Road was unanimously supported by the Town Board. The first step is for DOT to do a speed study, and I am hopeful they'll agree that 55mph is too fast. I extend my thanks to those residents for mobilizing around this important issue! Other streets who have organized to ask for speed studies in recent years include Rabbit Run, Garrett, Falls, and Krums Corners. "Trumansburg Community Action Theatre" offers youth the opportunity to explore issues of importance to them through theatre games and exercises. This program aims to empower local youth to develop their voices as artists, community leaders, and change-makers. No cost to participate, the program is grant funded and additionally supported by the Town of Ulysses Youth Services Dept. • Thursdays, Oct. 30- Dec. 4, 3:45-5:45pm. To help determine exactly what that should look like, the Town is working with a student group from the Cornell Design Connect program. We want to be sure that the needs and desires of the town residents are part of the plan. Can you help by taking this survey?The deadline is Nov. 7. JOIN A BOARD! The Town of Ulysses is currently seeking members for the following boards. This is a great way to get involved and learn more about the town. Planning Board- Seeking 2 alternates (1-year appointment). Typically meets at 7pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month. Duties include: • Review and decisions on various land use permits including site plan review and special use permits; • Recommendations to the Board of Zoning Appeals on variance applications, and • Recommendations to the Town Board planning goals, policies and long-range plans, such as the Comprehensive Plan, rezones, and zoning code revisions. Board of Zoning Appeals- Seeking 1 alternate (1-year appointment). Typically meets once a month at 7pm on the 3rd Wednesday. The Guthrie Lourdes "Mammo on the Move" Mobile Mammography Van will be at Tompkins County Whole Health, 55 Brown Rd., Ithaca, on Wednesday, October 29th, from 10am- 6pm. Call 607-798-5723 to set up your appointment time. You are eligible to use the van for breast screening if: • you are age 40 or older; • you have no current breast health problems or symptoms; • you have no history of breast surgery, or you had a biopsy over 1 year ago with benign results & no further problems Link here for more information. The site is 1,039 acres. Requires State to add 2,500 acres of new forest land in Adirondack Park. A yes vote authorizes new ski trails and related facilities in the Adirondack forest preserve. (A no vote does not authorize this use).
