The morning nip turned into a frost! I confess that the "-ber" months are my very favorite, so I enthusiastically pulled on more layers this morning. I do love the cozy vibe of fall. Thanks for those who attended recent events, including the Comprehensive Plan Open House on Monday and the new state park open house at the Farmer's Market in late September! Looking for another way to share your outdoor and recreation hopes, dreams, and opinions?The Town partnered with Cornell's Design Connect program to gather feedback on the future of the park donation on Cold Spring Road. We have a NEW survey available on long term planning for the site. Please share your thoughts and opinions by November 7th. One of my most important responsibilities as Town Supervisor is overseeing a budget process. I know professionally and personally that taxes are very important to manage because they can mean the difference of someone being able to live in or move to our wonderful Town. I'm pleased that the Tentative 2026 Budget being proposed and considered by the Town Board on Tuesday, October 14th is under the tax cap and maintains services, while also absorbing increases outside our control, particularly related to essential fire and ambulance. The next step is for the Town Board to schedule a public hearing for October 28th, and I encourage the public to share their views. The next Town Board meeting is Tuesday, October 14th at Town Hall and the board packet and links to join remotely are available here. The Town of Ulysses is currently seeking members for the following boards. This is a great way to get involved and learn more about the town. Planning Board- Seeking 2 alternates (1-year appointment). Typically meets at 7pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month. Duties include: • Review and decisions on various land use permits including site plan review and special use permits; • Recommendations to the Board of Zoning Appeals on variance applications, and • Recommendations to the Town Board planning goals, policies and long-range plans, such as the Comprehensive Plan, rezones, and zoning code revisions. Board of Zoning Appeals- Seeking 1 alternate (1-year appointment). Typically meets once a month at 7pm on the 3rd Wednesday. Duties include: • Hearing requests and issuing decisions on variances for proposed land uses or developments that do not comply with current local zoning code; and • Issuing decisions on appeals of any order, requirement, decision, interpretation, or determination made by the Zoning Officer. Schedule: • Thursday 10/16: 8:30am-6:30pm • Friday 10/17: 8:30am-5pm • Saturday 10/18: 10am-4pm • Sunday 10/19 - 10am-2pm For details, visit https://www.trumansburglibrary.org/book-sales READING FROM LIBBIE WILSON'S JOURNALS IN 1873-1923 ULYSSES On Tuesday, October 21, at 7 pm at the Ulysses Historical Society on 39 South Street, Rodney Bent will talk about a new publication of the Ulysses Historical Society, Libbie Wilson's Journals. Libbie was born 25 years before the Civil War and died ten years after World War I. From at least 1873 onwards she wrote daily about life on a farm in Ulysses. She (and the Town of Ulysses) experienced major changes during that period: railroads, telephones, automobiles, improvements in dentistry and medicine, the temperance movement, and moving pictures. The short, illustrated publication excerpts and annotates Libbie's journal entries, providing some historical context and background. The site is 1,039 acres. Requires State to add 2,500 acres of new forest land in Adirondack Park. A yes vote authorizes new ski trails and related facilities in the Adirondack forest preserve. A no vote does not authorize this use.
