UPDATE FROM TOWN SUPERVISOR:
Greetings, Ulyssians!
It was a surprisingly crisp summer morning today! It was a pleasant surprise to get to wear a sweatshirt on my
morning walk along the Black Diamond. Did you know the Town is currently working with New York State Parks and
the neighbors to make the roads around Taughannock safer by lowering speed limits, and also exploring ways to
make the Black Diamond trail crossings safer for walkers, bikers and drivers?
Congratulations to GrassRoots for their 33rd annual festival! The Town is responsible for overseeing a lot of
important safety features of the festival and camping, and coordination has operated very smoothly this year. Due to
neighbor concerns, the speakers on the main field have been reoriented to reduce external impact. As we have for
many years, the Town temporarily closes parking to Rabbit Run, as well as parts of Cemetery Road and Falls Road.
The Town's Code Officer will also be conducting safety inspections throughout the festival weekend.
Are you a leader or member of a local organization that provides important services to Ulysses residents? Check out
our community grants page here. A modest but important amount of our budget goes to supporting organizations
that reduce hunger, provide meals and transportation to seniors, teach gun safety, and make childcare more
accessible. The deadline to apply for the 2026 grants is August 8 at Sam.
Our next Town Board meeting is on Tuesday, July 22 at 7pm at Town Hall. We will be primarily discussing the annual
tax cap and a contract with Discover Cayuga. The Town is looking toward a special meeting in August to consider the
Cold Springs park donation, and will be sure to make sure the public is fully aware of that date. The Town is still
waiting on a final round of environmental feedback from NYS Ag and Markets. The full board packet and Zoom link to
join remotely is available here.

opportunity to request funds for 2026.

NYS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS CLASS- 7/22/25:
The Citizen Preparedness Corps (CPC) gives residents the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster or
emergency, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre -disaster conditions.
The next training session in Tompkins County will be Tuesday, July 22nd at 6:00pm at the Museum of the Earth, 1259
Trumansburg Road Ithaca.
The CPC training courses are led by New York National Guard members working with experts from the State Division
of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) and local emergency management.
"With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it's more important than ever to be
prepared for disasters," stated Geoff Dunn, Community Preparedness Coordinator for Tompkins County Emergency
Response. "This is a great opportunity to learn how to properly develop family emergency plans and stock up on
supplies."
The July 22nd event is sponsored by the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) and Love Living at Home (LLH). The
non-profit agency received a $2,500 AARP Community Challenge Grant to help provide six emergency preparedness
training sessions in Tompkins County.
"We are thrilled to be able to host this training, which aligns strongly with our efforts in climate change education
and in becoming a Resilience Hub for the community," said Ingrid Zabel, PRI's Climate Change Education Manager.
"It is incredibly important to us that residents feel prepared for any type of emergency," stated Thena Lindhorst,
Executive Director of Love Living at Home. "We are proud that AARP selected Love Living at Home for this investment
to make Tompkins County a safer place for residents of all ages."
A key component of the CPC training is the distribution of a disaster preparedness kit to each household that attends.
The training is offered free of charge, but registration is required. To register, visit: www.prepare.ny..gov
