IN THIS WEEK'S ULYSSES NEWSLETTER: Flood Insurance Q&A Upcoming Meetings Shooting Sports Classes Emergency Preparedness Class Classic Car Show Tommy Bi-plane Presentation FLOOD INSURANCE O&A- 7/15/25 The City of Ithaca, Town of Ithaca and Tompkins County invite Tompkins County residents to a public information session on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 6:00 PM at Ithaca Town Hall (215 N Tioga St, Ithaca) to learn about the impacts of FEMA's updated flood maps and the importance of flood insurance coverage. The event will feature a presentation and Q&A with Val Van Gorder of Bailey Place Insurance, alongside municipal planning staff. Topics will include: • How to determine if your property is now in a floodplain or at increased risk • Whether flood insurance is required or recommended for your property • What flood insurance does (and doesn't) cover • Flood insurance options and cost considerations • Coverage options for renters • Where to find more information about local flood risks The updated FEMA flood maps may affect insurance requirements and premiums for many property owners. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, get guidance from experts, and better understand the implications for their homes or properties. This event will be a hybrid virtual meeting via zoom and a video recording of the presentation will be made available on the City's website and YouTube channel. UPCOMING MEETINGS: • Planning Board- 7 15 at 7pm • BZA- 7/16 meeting cancelled about:blank 1/3 7/14/25, 9:57 AM SHOOTING SPORTS CLASSES: Ulysses Updates for 7/11 /25 - Casey Beck - Outlook Trumansburg Fish & Game Club, with Town of Ulysses support, is offering three classes introducing area residents to shooting sports involving shotguns and small -bore rifles. The class is geared to people aged 12 and up. Participants must be in good standing related to State and Federal firearm regulations. Each class will begin at 4pm and focus on the following: July 19- safe use and competitive sports with .22 rimfire rifles July 26- safe shotgun use and trap instruction August 2- safe shotgun use and skeet instruction Because of facility limitations, pre -registration is required. Those interested may register through the Trumansburg Fish & Game Club's Facebook site, using email at info.tfgc@gmail.com, by calling the club at 607.387.5433, or with an in -person visit during open shooting times Thursday evenings (5-8pm) or Sunday mornings (gam -noon). NYS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS CLASS- 7/22/25: The Citizen Preparedness Corps (CPC) gives residents the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster or emergency, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre -disaster conditions. The next training session in Tompkins County will be Tuesday, July 22nd at 6:00pm at the Museum of the Earth, 1259 Trumansburg Road Ithaca. The CPC training courses are led by New York National Guard members working with experts from the State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) and local emergency management. "With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it's more important than ever to be prepared for disasters," stated Geoff Dunn, Community Preparedness Coordinator for Tompkins County Emergency Response. "This is a great opportunity to learn how to properly develop family emergency plans and stock up on supplies." The July 22nd event is sponsored by the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) and Love Living at Home (LLH). The non-profit agency received a $2,500 AARP Community Challenge Grant to help provide six emergency preparedness training sessions in Tompkins County. "We are thrilled to be able to host this training, which aligns strongly with our efforts in climate change education and in becoming a Resilience Hub for the community," said Ingrid Zabel, PRI's Climate Change Education Manager. "It is incredibly important to us that residents feel prepared for any type of emergency," stated Thena Lindhorst, Executive Director of Love Living at Home. "We are proud that AARP selected Love Living at Home for this investment to make Tompkins County a safer place for residents of all ages." A key component of the CPC training is the distribution of a disaster preparedness kit to each household that attends. The training is offered free of charge, but registration is required. To register, visit: www.prepare.nygov TC HISTORY CENTER EVENTS: Classic Cruisers Car Show Join us for the inaugural Classic Car Show on West State Street in Downtown Ithaca! On Saturday, July 12th from 10am-2pm, experience a stunning display of automotive history just one block off The Commons. This FREE community event showcases approximately 30 classic cars, featuring everything from beloved American classics to modern electric vehicles from local transportation groups. Vehicle owners will be on hand to share stories and answer questions about their cherished cars, creating an engaging and educational experience for all ages. Tommy's Annual Maintenance Routine Ithaca Aviation Heritage Foundation presents Tommy's Annual Maintenance on Saturday, July 19th, at 1:00 pm. about:blank 2/3 7/14/25, 9:57 AM Ulysses Updates for 7/11 /25 - Casey Beck - Outlook Tommy's Annual Maintenance offers an insight into what is required to preserve a Thomas -Morse S-4 Scout biplane. Visual and hands-on demonstrations allow up close and personal observation of the plane located in the History Center's Exhibit Hall.
