UPDATE FROM TOWN SUPERVISOR OLSON:
Greetings, Ulyssians!
My favorite thing about spring is Ulysses is the landscape is primarily shades of gray and brown, and
then we eagerly wait for the first buds and new leaves, and then - BAM - everything is green and the
weeds are already a foot tall. It's amazing!
Many thanks to the Bee Committee, Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, Conservation and
Sustainability Advisory Committee, and the Tree Committee for all of the work they've collectively done
to celebrate and support our community this spring, from community clean ups, to tree plantings, to
educational opportunities to learn about how to protect ground bees, to engaging the public in
community service. Thank you to all of the volunteers in Ulysses working to make this a safer community
for all lifeforms.
Our next Town Board meeting will be on Tuesday, May 13th. Our focus will be on introducing a new
flood prevention law that FEMA requires us to update in keeping with the new maps they issued for
Ulysses. Additionally, we will be reviewing a contract for nearly $900K in grant funds to upgrade the
Maplewood Road culvert. It has been many years in the making! Although the land donation has been
an important topic of many recent meetings, no action is planned for this particular meeting. As always,
the agenda packet and options to attend in person and remotely are available here.

CITIZEN PREPAREDNESS TRAINING:
The next Citizen Preparedness training in Tompkins County will be held on Wednesday, May 14th at
6pm at the Slaterville Fire Department, 2681 Slaterville Road in Slaterville Springs.
Trainings are led by New York National Guard members working with experts from the state Division of
Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) and local emergency management personnel.
"With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it's more important than ever
to be prepared for disasters," stated Geoff Dunn, Community Preparedness Coordinator for Tompkins
County Emergency Response. "This is a great opportunity to learn how to properly develop family
emergency plans and stock up on supplies"
A key component of the CPC training is the distribution of preparedness kits (pictured) to each
household that attends. The training is offered free of charge, but registration is required. To register,
visit www.prepare.nygov
