Please note that the Town Hall parking lot renovation has begun and the lot (and EV charger) is closed to all traffic. If you are coming to see us, please use the Village parking lot across the street (we do not own the lot on the north side of the building). If you have mobility issues and this is tricky for you, please give us a call at (607)387-5767 and we'll do our best to assist you. The project will likely last about 3 weeks. IN THIS WEEK'S ULYSSES NEWSLETTER: Update from Town Supervisor Citizen Pruners Earthcare Day RECALL- Baby Food Higher Education from NYSOCM Youth Employment Jacksonville Park Clean Up UPDATE FROM TOWN SUPERVISOR OLSON: Greetings, Ulyssians! Dare I say ..... happy spring?! (Shhhhhh, I'm not trying to jinx anything, so I'll just whisper it, just in case winter is still listening.) In Town news, our long-awaited parking lot reconstruction project is underway. For the next couple weeks, visitors to Town Hall will need to park across the street in the Village's public parking lot. Thanks for your patience! The Town Board will reconvene next Tuesday at 7pm. We will reopen the public hearing on the potential park donation, an as a reminder you can check out lots of information about it here. The public is welcome to submit comments in person or by emailing a letter to clerk townofulyssesnygov. The Town Board will also be getting a presentation on the Agard Road culvert, as well as reviewing the grant contract we received to rehabilitate the Maplewood Culvert. Safe, functional infrastructure is critical in order to protect the safety and welfare of Town residents and visitors. In total, the Town has raised about $2.7 million in grant funds in the last 3 years to replace or rehabilitate critical Town infrastructure, including the Curry Road bridge, the Maplewood Road culvert, and the Garrett Road culvert. The presentation at the Town Board meeting will cover what steps are needed to apply for funding to replace or rehabilitate the Agard Road culvert. CITIZEN PRUNERS: City Forester, Jeanne Grace, will teach how to select the right tree for your space as well as how to plant and care for it in its early years. Each spring, CCE-Tompkins offers a multi -part training series for individuals who want to learn best practices for selecting, planting, caring for, and pruning ornamental trees and shrubs. The classes are part of a 3-part hybrid series (attend online or by Zoom), with a final hands-on workshop - take one or all. There will be a separate registration link for each class. She previously worked on the Asian Long -horned Beetle Eradication program in NYC and holds a BS from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse and an MS in Horticulture from Cornell University. She is a certified Arborist, a Tree Risk Assessment Qualified Arborist (TRAQ) and a DEC licensed pesticide applicator. LLead NYS OFFICE OF CANNABIS MGMT EDUCATION LIBRARY: The Office is proud to announce the launch of the Cannabis Education Library, a centralized hub of trusted, print -friendly educational materials for adults 21 and older. This new resource includes information on safer cannabis consumption, different product forms, special considerations for certain populations, and New York State cannabis laws. The Library also features a new function: a Cannabis Education Library Print Order Form and Catalogue that allows cannabis businesses, individuals, community -based providers, and other stakeholders to order printed educational materials, free of charge, delivered directly to their door. This rollout coincides with the launch of OCM's new multimedia campaign, "Higher Education," aimed at increasing public awareness and access to the Cannabis Education Library. The campaign will run statewide starting through June 17, 2025, with targeted media placement around the high -profile 4/20 holiday and placements in high -traffic areas —especially places where cannabis consumers, tourists, and New York adults frequent. YOUTH EMPLOYMENT: The Town of Ulysses Youth Employment Program (YEP) seeks to provide first-time job seekers with positive, paid work experience and an opportunity to develop meaningful job skills. The program is geared to Trumansburg area/Town of Ulysses teens aged 14 and up. Job openings are limited to 12 positions. Each will run 10-12 hours/week for 6-7 weeks this summer (72 hours total) at NYS minimum wage (currently $15.50/hour).
