UPDATE FROM SUPERVISOR OLSON:
Greetings, Ulyssians!
As Mr. Rogers famously said, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." In what has
been a hard week for our greater Trumansburg/Ulysses community, I'm extending my profound gratitude to
the Trumansburg Fire Department whose amazing volunteers have responded to multiple significant fires.
Thank you also to everyone who is finding ways to rally around and support those whose lives have been
impacted by these tragedies.
At the Town, we're gathering again at Town Hall on Tuesday, January 28th for our second regular meeting. In
addition to a couple presentations on the DPW and renewable energy infrastructure, we'll be discussing a
draft local law on increasing how much households can make in order to qualify for senior, disabled, and
veteran tax exemptions. The packet can be found here, and the public is always welcome to attend in person
or remotely.
UPCOMING MEETINGS:
Town Board- Tuesday, 1/28 at 7pm
“GET” KIDS?
Intrigued by complex emotions? Loathe boredom? Delight in the absurd?
The Town of Ulysses may have the ideal job for you!
We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, abundantly patient individual to provide youth development
programming to 5th-8th graders, after school and during the summer.
Candidates must possess appreciation and genuine affection for middle grade youth, and the ability to foster
an inclusive, supportive environment that respects youth in that wonderous and tumultuous space between
2
child- and adulthood. This position requires understanding and responsiveness to changing group dynamics
and interests, an adaptable and creative approach to plans and planning, and willingness to get in the weeds
(perhaps literally) with youth as they navigate their surroundings.
The right person for this role must be amiable and able to "play nice" with the Youth Commission and Town
staff to develop programming priorities and activities.
Reasonable pay rate ($23/hr)
flexibility with the total weekly hours worked (generally 10-15/week)
primary service hours will be after school until ~5:30pm
admin support provided to allow for a primary focus on delivering involved, interactive
programming for youth
Could be an ideal supplemental job for school district support staff!
Experience working with and engaging youth is strongly preferred; additional training and support will be
provided as needed and appropriate.
Got what it takes??

VALENTINE'S DAY CARDS FOR SENIORS:
State Senator Lea Webb (SD 52) has announced her 2nd annual "Valentine's Day Cards for Seniors" initiative,
inviting community involvement in creating Valentine’s cards for nursing home and adult care residents in the
Southern Tier.
This initiative invites schools, families, and individuals to participate by creating handmade Valentine's Day
cards as an expression of care and connection, aimed at reducing the feelings of isolation that many seniors
experience. The collected cards will be safely distributed by Senator Webb and her team to various nursing
homes and adult care residents in the region by Valentine's Day.
Participants are encouraged to drop off cards by 5:00 PM, February 6, at Senator Webb’s Ithaca Office: 217
North Aurora Street, Suite 110, Ithaca, NY 14850.
For more information, participants can contact Senator Webb's office at 607-773-8771.
TC BLUE ENVELOPE PROGRAM TO SUPPORT THOSE WITH AUTISM:
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Dept. announces a program to encourage drivers with autism to keep
important documents such as their license, registration, and insurance in a Blue Envelope to help officers be
alerted to the driver’s condition and adjust their response accordingly.
Along with clear instructions for the driver, explanatory information as well as an emergency contact is printed
on the envelope for the law enforcement officer.
The New York State Sheriffs’ Association is promoting this program statewide, with many sheriff’s offices,
including Tompkins County, participating.
People can pick up the Blue Envelopes at the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office at 779 Warren Road, Ithaca, NY.
THANKS FOR READING TO THE END! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND.
