UPDATE FROM TOWN SUPERVISOR OLSON
Greetings, Ulyssians!
Our late summer persists! Just a quick jump into your inbox to keep you updated on a couple important
Town activities next week.
First, the Town Board will have a regular Town Board meeting on Tuesday, October 8 at 7pm in Town
Hall. We will be holding two public hearings on improving signage related to the Board of Zoning
Appeals and to allow parks to be an allowed use in our already -established Park Zones. We will also be
continuing to discuss the Tentative 2025 budget. More information, including the link to join this
meeting remotely, are available here. As always, comments can be submitted in advance to the Town
Clerk (clerk@townofulyssesnygov) and the public is welcome to join us in person or remotely.
Then, on Wednesday, October 9, the Town will host an information session related the Curry Road
culvert replacement. The Town received funding earlier this year from BridgeNY for a full replacement of
this important piece of Town infrastructure, and the public is invited to learn about the design and
installation process. This will happen at 5:30pm on Wednesday, October 9th at Town Hall. More
information is available here.
PUBLIC HEARINGS on 10/8 at 7pm:
Local Law to Require Signage for Variances
As a best practice, the town has been posting signs on properties where a variance is requested. This
amendment will codify that. More information here.
Local Law to Allow Parks in Park/Recreation Zone
More information here.
NOTICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING: CURRY RD. CULVERT REPLACEMENT
The Town of Ulysses will hold a Public Information Meeting to discuss the proposed replacement of the
Curry Road Culvert over Trumansburg Creek. The meeting will be held from 5:30-6:30pm on Wednesday,
October 9th, 2024, at Ulysses Town Hall, 10 Elm Street Trumansburg, NY 14886.
The project is being funded by a BridgeNY grant. At present, the project is in the preliminary design
phase. Representatives from the Town of Ulysses, Town of Ulysses Highway Department, NYSDOT, and
Barton & Loguidice, D.P.C. will be available at the meeting to answer questions on the proposed project
from individuals, groups, officials and local agencies.

calling (607)387-5767.

FALL BIRD MIGRATION IS UNDERWAY!
View list of Bird Conservation Areas across the state for great bird watching opportunities. With birds on
the move, birding sites can change within a few days with different species traveling in and out.
Every spring and fall. thousands of raptors migrate, and birders may see or hear eagles, kestrels, sharp -
shinned hawks, ospreys, broad -winged hawks, and peregrine falcons, among others. The NYS Birding
Trail highlights several hawk watches including Bear Mountain Hawk Watch at Bear Mountain State
Park, Hook Mountain Hawk Watch, and Mount Peter Hawkwatch Trailway.
It's also important for everyone to turn off the lights for birds at night. DEC launched the 'Lights
Out' initiative aimed at keeping non -essential outdoor lighting from affecting the ability of birds to
migrate successfully. Many species of shorebirds and songbirds rely on constellations to help them
navigate to and from their summer breeding grounds through the State. Excessive outdoor lighting,
especially in adverse weather conditions, can cause these migrating birds to become disoriented, a
phenomenon known as fatal light attraction.
