The Town Board is requesting funding applications from community organizations that offer services that contribute to the health, safety and welfare of town citizens. Historically, organizations have requested funding between $500 and $5,000 to provide senior services, arts programs, recreation and more. The submission deadline is July 27th, 2024 by Sam. Submit electronically to mwrightownofulyssesnygov ; hard copies via mail, put in dropbox outside front door of Town Hall, or delivered in person to Town Hall 10am-3pm Monday through Friday, or by appointment. Requests will be reviewed as the Town prepares the 2025 budget. Applicants may be asked to meet with Town Board members to give a brief presentation and will be notified after passage of the town's final budget in November. NYS funded over $484 million for 216 projects in 137 communities across NYS to rehabilitate and replace bridges and culverts, enhance safety, and improve the resiliency and sustainability of NY's infrastructure. Aging office offers caregiver class The Tompkins County Office for the Aging is offering in -person classes for caregivers starting July 24 at 2 pm. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers Class is offered at the 214 W. State Street office in Ithaca. It is an interactive, evidence -based course designed to provide the tools needed to balance caregiving and self - care. To register: Call 607-274-5484. Mural unveiling promotes vaccinations, community Tompkins County Whole Health has unveiled a mural located along the Albany Street side of the Human Services Annex Building which houses the Tompkins County Office for the Aging-(COFA), and Department of Veterans Services (TCDVS) at 214 W. Martin Luther King Jr./State Street, Ithaca. The mural captures different visual elements of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Tompkins County community. It demonstrates how critical vaccinations are to prevent illness and keep one another healthy and safe. COFA was chosen as the site for the mural due to the pandemic's overwhelming impact on older adults. The murals were a collaborative effort between COFA, Tompkins Countv Whole Health and Ithaca Murals. COMMENT ON NYSEG'S CLIMATE VULNERABILITY STUDY PLANS: On February 24, 2022, Governor Hochul signed into law an act requiring New York State utility corporations with combined natural gas and electric services to submit a climate change vulnerability study by September 22, 2023. The studies evaluated each corporation's infrastructure, design specifications, and procedures to better understand the electric system's vulnerability to climate -driven risks. The utility companies submitted plans to address the results from their climate vulnerability study on November 21, 2023. The New York State Department of Public Service (DPS) is seeking public comments regarding the Electric Utility Climate Vulnerability Study Plan. To ensure full public participation, the Commission will hold a series of in -person public statement hearings throughout July and August 2024 to seek input and comments from your community regarding the Electric Utility Climate Vulnerability Study Plans submitted by New York State's major electric utilities. CITIZEN PREPAREDNESS CORPS TRAINING OFFERED IN NEWFIELD ON JULY 23RD The Citizen Preparedness Corps gives residents the tools and resources needed to help prepare for any type of disaster or emergency, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre -disaster conditions. The next training in Tompkins County will be held Tuesday, July 23rd at 6:00pm at the Newfield Fire Department, 77 Main Street, Newfield. CPC trainings are led by New York National Guard members working with experts from the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) and are coordinated with local emergency management personnel. "With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it's more important than ever to be prepared for disasters," stated Geoff Dunn, Community Preparedness Coordinator for Tompkins County Emergency Response. "Come and learn how to develop family emergency plans and stock up on supplies." A key component of the training is the distribution of NYS Disaster Preparedness Kits to attendees (one per family). The training is offered free of charge, but all participants must register in advance at: www.prepare.nygov WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR SECOND ANNUAL TOMPKINS COUNTY VOTING STICKER CONTEST -� 4- The Tompkins County Board of Elections has announced the winners of the 2024 voting sticker contests. Over 1,700 votes were cast by the public, selecting Ahava Sapp's "Future Voter" design featuring the "S.S. Ballot Vote Boat" and Ruby LeCroy's "I Voted" design featuring a frog on a flower. The contests set out to increase civic engagement and participation by young people in Tompkins County. "I Voted" stickers will be distributed to all general election voters this November, "Future Voter" stickers will be handed out to young people joining their families at the polls to learn more about democracy and voting. The winners will receive copies of their winning sticker design and a proclamation from the Tompkins County Legislature later this year. Planning Board- 2 full members (to complete remaining terms through 2026 and 2028) + 2 alternate positions (1-yr appointments) are available. The Planning Board is made up of 5 town residents appointed by the Town Board, and up to 2 additional residents may be appointed to serve as alternates. Some of the duties of the Planning Board include: • The review of, and issuing decisions on, various land use permits including site plan review and special use permits; • The review of, and providing recommendations to the Board of Zoning Appeals on, variance applications, and • The review of, and providing recommendations to the Town Board on, the Town's broad planning goals, policies and long-range plans, such as the Comprehensive Plan, rezones, and zoning code revisions. The Planning Board typically meets once a month at 7pm on the 1st Tuesday of the month, and periodically on the 3rd Tuesday as needed. Board of Zoning Appeals- 1 alternate position (1-year appointment) available. The Board of Zoning Appeals is made up of 5 town residents appointed by the Town Board, and up to 2 additional residents may be appointed to serve as alternates. Some of the duties of the Board of Zoning Appeals include: • The review of, and issuing decisions on variance requests related to property use and certain development standards; and • The review of, and issuing decisions on appeals of decisions, interpretations, and determinations of the Zoning Officer.
