IN THIS WEEK'S ULYSSES NEWSLETTER: Public Hearing on Town Justice Consolidation Youth Employment Opportunities TC Dispatchers Recognized Attend the Ag Committee Mtg Town Flooding Photos Sought Upcoming Town Meetings Spring Photo Contest I Voted Sticker Contest PUBLIC HEARING ON CONSOLIDATION OF COURT JUSTICES: Fri, Apr 26, 2024 at 3:48 PM At a regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Ulysses held at Town Hall, 10 Elm St., Trumansburg, New York, on the 23rd day of April, 2024, a resolution was passed scheduling public hearing on the reduction of the number of town court justices from two to one. The Public Hearing will take place at 7pm on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at the Town Hall at 10 Elm St., Trumansburg NY 14886 as well as via Zoom videoconference at https:Hzoom.us/j/183862745 (by telephone at +1-646-558-8656, 183862745#). Please take further notice that at the aforementioned time and place, all interested residents (or their agents/representatives) will be afforded an opportunity to submit written and/or oral comments. Comments may also be sent in advance to the Town Clerk at 10 Elm St., Trumansburg NY 14886 or via e-mail to clerk(@townofulyssesnygov by 5pm on May 14, 2024. YOUTH EMPLOYMENT: The Town of Ulysses Youth Employment Program (YEP) offers Trumansburg-area teens (age 14+) a supportive, first-time job experience and an opportunity to develop meaningful job skills. Interested youth should apply by May 18 at https://forms.gle/6Qe8u2aaekQ7riLK7 For questions email Rachel Kennedy at rkennedy-@townofulyssesnygov TOMPKINS COUNTY DISPATCHERS HONORED: The Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response (DOER) marked National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (April 14-20) with its third annual recognition and awards ceremony. Director Michael Stitley, Deputy Director Jessica Verfuss, and Communications Center Manager John Halaychik presented Distinguished Service Awards to a number of DoER employees. Several emergency services dispatchers were recognized for their response to a number of storm -related calls on April 1st, 2023 and for their assistance during a manhunt in the town of Caroline on October 24th. The department's highest honor - Dispatcher of the Year - was presented to Josy Castillo. The Director's Award was given to Scott Blauvelt. Both were also recognized for their work as CTOs, or Communications Training Officers. The 9-1- 1 Dispatch Center is now nearly fully staffed thanks to the dedication and commitment of Josy, Scott, and Michael Collins, a dispatch supervisor, who also received a CTO Award. The ceremony also recognized several employees with Years of Service Pins: • Lauren Dickenson - 35 Years • Geri Lockwood - 25 years • Scott Blauvelt - 20 Years • Christie Sims - 20 Years • Ron Goossen - 20 Years • John Halaychik - 10 Years • Pat Harris - 5 Years • Travis Collins - 5 Years AG COMMITTEE MEMBERS SOUGHT: The Town of Ulysses is re-establishing the Ag Committee as part of the comprehensive plan update. If you are a farmer, a landowner with lands used for agricultural purposes, involved in a farming industry or someone interested in farming issues, we encourage you to attend the meeting at 5:30pm on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Trumansburg Fire Hall, 74 W. SPRINGTIME PHOTO CONTEST: The Town of Ulysses' Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee is conducting a photography competition as part of the Town's Comp Plan update. Each quarter we're requesting community members take photos of the Town that you feel best captures the spirit of our community during that season and submit them to the Committee. Selected photos will be incorporated into the adopted Comp Plan with credits given to the photographer. This season's competition is Spring! The Committee will accept photos that capture the essence of spring in the Town from March 19 to June 19, 2024. NEW "Future Voter" sticker contest for students in grades k-5. "I Voted" stickers will be distributed to all general election voters this November, "Future Voter" stickers will be handed out to young people joining their families at the polls to learn more about democracy and voting. For the "I Voted" sticker contest, submitted artwork must say "I Voted" somewhere visible and must fit in a 2-inch by 2- inch circle. Submissions must be original artwork and may be hand drawn or created using a computer. "Future Voter" submissions may be submitted from a template provided by the County and must also be original artwork and may be hand drawn or created using a computer.
