Please note the following Clerk's office closings: today, Friday, March 29, and Tuesday, April 2. IN THIS WEEK'S ULYSSES NEWSLETTER: Planning Board Meeting Get Involved with the Comp Plan Free Well Testing Town & County Tax Deadline- April 1 Mental Health Survey for First Responders Reforest Your Natural Areas Early Voting for Presidential Primary Highway Expenditure Subject to Permissive Referendum Fri, Mar 29, 2024 at 9:00 AM PLANNING BOARD MEETING: The Planning Board will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, April 2 at 7pm. View details and agenda here. The board meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month as needed. COMPREHENSIVE PLAN: The Town of Ulysses has begun to update its Comprehensive Plan. Public input is invited and essential to help craft a vision for the town's future. See all the ways to get involved here. FREE WELL TESTING: Is your main source of drinking water a well? Are you concerned about potential contaminants? The NYS Department of Health (DOH) is assisting the New York Rural Water Association (NYRWA) and the Ulysses Water Source Protection Plan Committee in developing a Source Water Protection Plan for the Town. In support of this, the DOH will be doing a limited number of well tests for a suite of water quality parameters. We need volunteers who are Ulysses residents not connected to municipal water to have their well tested (no charge to the homeowner). Interested in participating? Please send your name, address, and preferred email contact to private.wellsna health.ny_gov by April 22. The DOH will be scheduling a limited number of tests, over the course of 2- 3 days in early -to -mid May. The goal is a good representative sampling of drinking water wells Town -wide. Unfortunately, although we appreciate all who volunteer to participate, not everyone will be able to, due to limited resources. Ideal sampling locations will allow access inside the house. Homeowners will receive a report and explanation of the results. Individual household results will remain confidential with the DOH. The Town will receive a summary report of the findings without any location identifier. This data helps the Town and NYS to understand potential health concerns that may be present in drinking water wells and to focus on developing solutions in Ulysses. TOWN & COUNTY TAX DEADLINE REMINDER: The last day that we can accept your Town & County tax bill is Monday, April 1. Payments for this deadline must be received or postmarked by April 1. After April 1, an additional penalty will be added and Tompkins County takes over the collection of these taxes. To see whether your bill has been paid, visit https://townofulyssesnygov/departments/dept-clerk/clerk-tax/. You may also pay your bill online at that link but please note that the third -party processor will add a fee. Payments in person, in the town's drop box or by mail (postmarked by April 1) are also accepted. FIRST RESPONDER MENTAL HEALTH SURVEY: The Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has joined with the Institute for Disaster Mental Health and the Benjamin Center at SUNY New Paltz to hear from first responders about mental health issues. Your participation will help to inform future mental health programs and services for first responders. Anonymous survey questions include the following: • What parts of a first responders job cause the most stress? • How do these stressors impact the mental health and wellness of the first responder community? • What are the barriers to receiving mental health and wellness care? • What are the best services and programs to address these challenges? Click the link below to share your thoughts and insights. All responses are ANONYMOUS. https://newpaltz.col.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b4pl H1 Bj3FFSHQi DO YOU OWN OR MANAGE NATURAL AREAS THAT ARE OR COULD BE FORESTED? The Division of Lands and Forests is conducting a survey to learn more about how public and private forest land is being managed, as well as the tree planting potential for lands that are not currently forested (ex: lawns, grassland, shrubland, vineland, wetlands, and previously developed sites). NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation will use this data to help with reforestation and afforestation (creating new forests) efforts across the state to meet our tree planting and forest regeneration goals. If you or your organization owns or manages forest land or land that could be planted to create new forests, please fill out the survey. Also, please share the survey with other landowners that meet the above criteria —we would love to hear from everyone!
