ICE FISHING SAFETY:
From NYS DEC:
Recent fluctuating temperatures are causing variable ice conditions across many parts of the state, so now more than
ever safety should be your #1 priority. Keep these tips in mind when planning your trip out on the ice.
• Four inches of clear, black ice is generally safe for if you're venturing out on foot, however ice thickness can
vary on every waterbody.
• Be particularly cautious of areas with moving water and around boat docks and houses where bubblers may
be installed to reduce ice buildup.
• The presence of snowmobile tracks or footprints on the ice should not be taken as evidence of safe ice
conditions.
• Bait and tackle shops can be a great resource for information on current ice conditions. However, avoid
situations that appear to present even a remote risk.
• Check the ice thickness with an auger or ice spud at various spots as you move around.
• Carry ice safety picks (two handles with spike points) to help you get out of the water should you break
through the ice.
For additional ice safety quidelines, visit the DEC website.

TOMPKINS COUNTY OFFICE FOR THE AGING 2024 PUBLIC HEARING
The Tompkins County Office for the Aging will hold its annual Public Hearing on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 11:00 am
at the Danby Community Church, 1859 Danby Road, Ithaca. The Public Hearing provides a venue for community
members to learn about programs and services provided by the Office for the Aging. It is also an important opportunity
for the public to offer feedback about issues affecting older adults in our community and to provide input for the
department's plan for 2024.
We invite members of the public to read the abstract for our 2024 plan and provide input through a very brief
survey. You may access this survey by visiting https://www.surveymonke)/.com/COFA or by calling our office at 607-
274-5482 and a staff person will record your feedback over the phone. The survey will remain open through
February 28th.
