Visit ready_.gov for more safety tips. See updates below and have a great weekend! IN THIS WEEK'S ULYSSES NEWSLETTER: Update from Supervisor Board/Committee Vacancies Help with Ambulance Bill Food Pantry Hours NYS Cannabis Management Tax Bills Due Jan. 31 Rabies Clinics Drinking Water Survey UPDATE FROM SUPERVISOR OLSON: Greetings, Ulyssians, and Happy 2024! If the reports are accurate, it looks like we'll be getting our first real snowfall this weekend, Saturday into Sunday. If you hear shouts of joy around 8:30am on Sunday, it will be all of the kids loading up on the TCSD ski buses heading out to enjoy the fresh snowfall! In my first year as Supervisor, I had the wonderful opportunity to do a ride along with Dep. Superintendent Dave Snyder during a blizzard. I learned so much about the department and the nuances of how they keep the roads safe for all of us. Please remember that these are big trucks and great Town employees, so give them space and patience to do their job if you're out and about when they're clearing or salting the roads. A quick note that we will be having a public hearing on the fire contract with the Village of Trumansburg that covers our Fire District. It will start at 7:05pm on Tuesday, January 9th during our first regular meeting of the year. You can read the contract and get other information about the meeting here. Members of the public are welcome to attend in person or remotely and can also submit comments in advance to clerk(a)townofulvssesny gov. Finally, is one of your New Year's resolutions to get more involved in your community? We have some important positions available in the Town, including 2 alternate positions on the Board of Zoning Appeals and 1 alternate position on the Planning Board, and we're still looking for one resident of the Lake Shore Zone to fill out our last spot on the Comp Plan Steering Committee. (Please see below for more information.) While not a resolution, exactly, I always start the year off by looking back at the books I've particularly loved, since reading is one of my happy places. Some recent thought -provoking and/or entertaining reads included Stone Blind, The Swimmers, The Twyford Code, I Have Some Questions for You, All that is Mine I Carry With Me, The Swifts, and Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning. I encourage you to access these (or others!) titles from the very excellent Ulysses Philomathic Library_. Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee: The Town of Ulysses has begun to update its Comprehensive Plan, a critical summary of the vision and strategies needed to guide the Town's development in a direction our community wants to go. All stakeholders, including residents, business owners, youth and visitors have important perspectives on what makes our Town great, and where we should be headed. The Town's Comprehensive Plan Committee will be using a survey and holding meetings to get your input. Watch our Website for updates and get involved! 1 member is sought for a term ending with project completion. Meetings are as needed and generally scheduled one to two months in advance. Application for boards/committees Questions can be sent to Town Planner Niels Tvgesen and/or Town Supervisor Katelin Olson. TROUBLE PAYING LOCAL AMBULANCE BILL? The Town of Ulysses is encouraging everyone residing outside the Village of Trumansburg to take the survey (linked below) to describe where they get their water from, any problems with its quantity or quality, and concerns about maintaining your water supply in the future. The information will be a critical element in developing a comprehensive Water Source Protection Plan that will guide the town's actions to protect drinking water resources throughout Ulysses in the coming years and offer steps homeowners can take to improve their drinking water quality. A generalized summary of the Survey results will be presented at a workshop in 2024. The online survey is located at https:Harcg.is/1 D01TT0. Paper copies of the survey are also available at the Town Hall. Responses are requested by January 21, 2024. Thank you to all the town residents who have already taken the time to complete it.
