As we head into a holiday weekend, the Town extends its gratude to all of our acve-duty military, military veterans, and their families for their service to the United States! Thank you to everyone who turned out to vote on Tuesday, and congratulaons to Michael Boggs and Elizabeth Weatherby for their reelecon to the Town Board, and Judge Mark Dresser for his re-elecon as a Town Jusce. I am grateful for your service! Last night the Town held a public informaon session on the proposed acquision of land for recreaonal purposes. Have quesons about how the price of the land was determined, the demonstrated need for addional recreaon space, or how the community planning process would work to determine the design of the property? Check out the Town's updated Frequently Asked Questions answering 41 different quesons. As a reminder, the special election will happen on December 6. Anyone already registered with the Board of Elecons and who lives in/is registered with a Ulysses address (including the Village of Trumansburg) is all set to vote. (Check your Board of Elecons registraon status here.) Anyone not registered (who is 18 years of age and a resident of the Town at least 30 days in advance of the elecon) can register in-person for town-only elecons at Town Hall with the Town's Board of Registraon on November 18th (noon-4pm) and November 21st (3-7pm). Absentee ballot applicaons are available in hard copy at Town Hall starng Monday and online here. In other news, the Town's Water Source Protecon Commiee sent a postcard to every property in Town (outside the Village) seeking feedback on water issues via a survey. This is important informaon for the Town to understand challenges our residents may be having accessing clean drinking water, and help guide how the Town can leverage local, state, and federal resources to help improve the health and welfare of our community. A QR code is on the postcard. If you have a smart phone you can open up the camera app and center it over the QR code, the weblink will pop up. You can also pick up a paper copy from Town Hall. Please contact the Town Clerk (clerk@townofulyssesny.gov) if you have any quesons about accessing a paper copy. Finally, the Town Board will be meeng on Tuesday, November 14th at 7pm for our regular meeng. The agenda packet is available here. The public is welcome to join us in person at Town Hall or aend remotely via Zoom. TOWN OF ULYSSES SPECIAL ELECTION 12/6/23 A Special Elecon will be held on 12/6/23 to determine whether the Town should purchase 30 acres for recreation purposes. Date: Wed., Dec. 6, 2023 Times: 11am-8pm Polling locaons: (Select whichever is most convenient for you) · Trumansburg Village Hall- 56 E. Main St., Trumansburg NY 14886 · Franziska Racker Center- 3226 Wilkins Road, Ithaca, New York 14850 Who can vote: · Anyone already registered with the Tompkins County Board of Elecons. FREE FISHING DAY: Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that New York will honor Veterans on the year's sixth and final Free Fishing Day of 2023 on Saturday, Nov. 11. The Free Fishing Day is one of many ways New York State recognizes and assists Veterans and Acve Duty Military in connecng to the outdoors. For more info on this iniave, visit https://on.ny.gov/4747o3K DRINKING WATER PROTECTION SURVEY: How is your drinking water? We want to know! All Ulysses residents (outside the Village of Trumansburg) will receive a postcard in the next 10 days with a link to a Drinking Water Survey. The Town of Ulysses is encouraging everyone to use this survey to describe where they get their water from, and any problems with its’ quanty or quality, such as taste, color, or odor. Paper copies of the survey will also be available at the Town Hall or you can go directly to the online survey at https://arcg.is/1DO1TT0. Responses are requested by November 22. The informaon will be a crical element in developing a comprehensive Water Source Protecon Plan that will ensure sustainable drinking water resources throughout Ulysses in the coming years. A generalized summary of the Survey results will be presented at a Workshop in early 2024, along with useful guidance such as how to protect groundwater wells and filter systems for improving drinking water quality. Informaon about the Drinking Water Source Protecon Plan project and updates are posted on the Commiee’s webpage at https://townofulyssesny.gov/boards/wsppc-source-water-protection- committee/ TOMPKINS COUNTY HOSTS WINTER SKYWARN COURSE ON NOVEMBER 14TH When: Tuesday, November 14th from 6:30pm – 8:00pm Where: Tompkins County Dept. of Emergency Response 92 Brown Road, Ithaca, NY 14850 Objective: To train storm spoers about winter storms and what to report to the Naonal Weather Service (NWS) and Emergency Management relang to snow, ice, rain, and flooding. Topics Include: Informaon on SKYWARN and its goal, the NWS mission and the importance of spoers and ground truth reports and examples of how spoers can help forecasters warn the public; winter weather hazards, winter weather terminology, winter storms including snowstorms, blizzards, lake effect snow, rainstorms, flooding and ice storms, winter weather and flood safety, how to get winter weather informaon and procedures for reporng snowfall, ice, flooding and rainfall to the NWS. Who Should Attend: Individuals who are interested in becoming SKYWARN weather spoers, feeding valuable informaon to the Naonal Weather Service. SKYWARN spoers are independent of any government agency and are not by definion “Storm Chasers.” The class is free and open to everyone. No age requirements or previous training is required.
