UPDATE FROM TOWN SUPERVISOR OLSON:
Greetings, Ulyssians!
There are a lot of important dates coming up in this busy fall season.

upgrades to help us better serve the public. The Town Court will be open starting at 1pm.
There will be a special Town Board meeting starting at 6pm on Tuesday, October 24 in
conjunction with the Planning Board and Board of Zoning Appeals members to hear feedback
on the training requirements. In July, the Town Board adopted training requirements in sexual
harassment, ethics, and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act for elected officials, public officials, and
members of the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee. Interested members of the public
are, as always, invited to attend in person or remotely.
Starting at our regular 7pm meeting time on Tuesday, October 24, the Town Board is putting
the final wrap on the 2024 Budget. Anyone interested in sharing their thoughts are
encouraged to do so via email (clerk.ulysses@gmail.com) or in person/online during our Public
Hearing. The public hearing is at the top of the agenda, so it will commence soon after the
Town Board's regular meeting starts. Meeting details, including the agenda packet, are
available here. The materials for the rest of the meeting are available here.
On Wednesday, October 25, the Three Falls LDC (composed of representatives from the Town
of Ulysses, Village of Trumansburg, and Town of Covert) will be jointly hosting a meeting with
New York State Parks to discuss the pending acquisition of Camp Barton. Come join us at 7pm
in Village Hall to learn all about the process. Remote attendance is also possible.
The general election is approaching on Tuesday, November 7 and there is still time to register
to vote. Registration is being accepted until October 28. More information on registering and
the 2023 general election is available here.
On Thursday, November 9, the Town will host a public information session on the proposed
acquisition of land for recreational purposes at the Fire Hall at 6:30pm. The session will involve
an overview of the process, followed by a Q&A. Questions will be collected in advance of the
meeting and at the meeting. To submit a question in advance, please email
ulyssesrecreation@gmail.com. Information about the process is available here, including a
Frequently Asked Questions document that includes 32 questions and answers. This is a living
document will be further updated with special election information and other commonly asked

COMMUNITY DAY AT LIBRARY
Community Day will be a gathering and celebration of organizations that serve the Town of
Ulysses and Village of Trumansburg on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 11am‐1pm. Representatives of
those organizations will be providing information about what they do and what opportunities
they have for folks to get involved and give back to their communities. We’ll have coffee,
snacks, and activities for kids to enjoy. This event is for all ages, and we’re especially hoping
that teens looking for community service/volunteer opportunities will come out and connect
with these groups.
This event will benefit the community by connecting our next generation of civically engaged
citizens with the people and groups that are currently doing great work, ensuring that our
culture of service and community involvement lives on. We at the library were inspired to host
this event as a part of The Great Give Back (https://thegreatgiveback.org/) an initiative created
in Suffolk County which has now spread across the state, in which libraries coordinate service‐
oriented experiences within their communities.
Groups in attendance will include the Trumansburg Rotary, Trumansburg Food Pantry,
Trumansburg Fire Department, The Gemm Shop, Cayuga Nature Center, Ulysses Historical
Society, and more!

EAST SHORE DRIVE PEDESTRIAN AND BIKE STUDY:
The Town of Ithaca Planning Department invites anyone interested to attend the East Shore
Drive pedestrian and bicycle safety corridor open house with engineering consultants Barton &
Loguidice, hosted at the Boynton Middle School cafeteria on Wed., November 15th from 5:45‐
7:15 pm. The engineers will share information on and display schematic alternative plans for
NYS Route 34 between Boynton Middle School and the Ithaca Youth Bureau (James L. Gibbs
Dr.).
This project is developing a feasibility study for a capital project to improve the safety for
pedestrians and bicyclists and develop designs to link existing multi‐use trail infrastructure on
approximately 700’ of East Shore Drive (NYS‐34) between Boynton Middle School (N. Cayuga
Street) and the Ithaca Youth Bureau (James L. Gibbs Dr.) This is a key corridor providing an
important link to Stewart Park and the Cayuga Waterfront Trail for walkers, joggers, and cyclists
of all ages and from various City of Ithaca neighborhoods, as well nearby Town of Ithaca and
Village of Cayuga Heights neighborhoods. The corridor is also an important and busy
transportation route for cars and trucks, including the location of on‐ and off‐ramps for NYS‐13
with access to NYS‐34.
