scheduling an appointment online, dial 211 to speak with the helpline.
COVID‐19 Test Kits and high‐quality masks for youth and adults are available at no‐charge at
locations throughout the county. Call the location nearest you to check current availability of
these resources.
The new COVID‐19 vaccine will be available in limited supply at our on‐site immunization clinics

NATIONWIDE EMERGENCY ALERT PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 4TH
Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response, in conjunction with FEMA and the FCC
will conduct a nationwide emergency alert test next week.
The national test will consist of two portions, testing Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and
Emergency Alert System (EAS) capabilities. Both tests are scheduled to begin at around 2:20pm
on Wednesday, October 4th.
The WEA portion of the test will be directed to all consumer cell phones. The test message will
display in either English or in Spanish, depending on the language settings of the wireless
handset. The EAS portion of the test will be sent to radios and televisions.
All wireless phones should receive the message only once. The message will read: “THIS IS A
TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”
The EAS portion of the test is scheduled to last approximately one minute and will be
conducted with the participation of radio and television broadcasters, cable systems, satellite
radio and television providers and wireline video providers. The test message will state: “This is
a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency
Management Agency. This is only a test. No action is required by the public.”
The purpose of the October 4th test is to ensure that the systems continue to be effective
means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level.
“It is hoped that by getting the word out in advance, it will help to minimize any confusion
when the nationwide test is conducted,” said Geoff Dunn, Community Preparedness
Coordinator for Tompkins County Emergency Response. “Again, no action is required by the
public.”

HABITAT NATURE PRESERVE WALK
In 2018, the Town of Ulysses acquired 30 acres of secondary growth forest off of Salo Drive,
now known as the Habitat Nature Preserve. This site has a mixture of native and invasive plants,
diverse trees, and multiple fungal communities which several bird, mammal and reptile species
call home.
Join naturalists Marc Devokaitis and Marvin Pritts from 9‐10:30am on Saturday, Oct. 14 for an
exploration of this ever‐changing habitat and learn to identify some of the species that exist in
our town. Park at the farmer's market and walk to the trail head at 23 Salo Drive, Trumansburg
NY 14886.
Please RSVP to ulysses.clerk@gmail.com.
TRUMANSBURG COMMUNITY FORUM ON INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
Who lived high above Cayuga’s waters before the lake was so named – or rather,
misnamed? What’s the story behind the purple Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫɁ sign at the Corner of Cayuga and
Congress Streets? What is behind the controversies around the vandalism, gaming, and land‐
into‐trust at the north end of the lake? And why is there a movement to rename Columbus
Day? Come learn about the “other” 98% of human history that dominated our region by author
and Cornell professor Kurt Jordan (Anthropology/American Indian and Indigenous Studies).
Event is free, 7:00 pm, Tuesday October 10th, Fellowship Hall, 69 East Main St., Trumansburg.
FACEBOOK PAGE:
The Town now has a Facebook page. The goal of the page is to share useful and important
information with a wider audience, but not to engage in dialogue on that platform. As always,
please stop in, call, or e‐mail with any questions or concerns on municipal issue.

FREE RABIES VACCINATION CLINICS:
New York State requires all cats, dogs, and ferrets to have their first rabies vaccination between
3 and 4 months of age. Since this is required by law, we hold rabies clinics throughout the year
to ensure you are able to keep your pets protected.
PRE‐REGISTRATION IS RECOMMENDED.
Date: Saturday, October 14, 2023
Time: 11:00 AM–2:00 PM
Where: TCAT Bus Garage, 737 Willow Ave, Ithaca, NY 14850.
NOTE: This is a drive‐through clinic; you must remain in your vehicle for this event. The drive‐
through clinic is recommended for those with mobility issues or for those with reactive dogs
who would have difficulty waiting in a line.
For more information, visit https://tompkinscountyny.gov/health/rabies#clinics
PLANNING BOARD ALTERNATE NEEDED:
The Town of Ulysses is seeking applicants to fill 1 member (5‐yr term) plus 2 seats for alternates
on the Planning Board. Alternate terms last for 1 year and are a great way to learn about the
board. Alternates are expected to attend all meetings but will only vote when a quorum is
needed.
Some of the duties of the Planning Board include:
The review of, and issuing decisions on, various land use permits including site plan
review and special use permits
The review of, and providing recommendations to the Board of Zoning Appeals on,
variance applications
The review of, and providing recommendations to the Town Board on, the Town’s broad
planning goals, policies and long‐range plans, such as the Comprehensive Plan, rezones,
and zoning code revisions.
The Planning Board typically meets once a month at 7pm on the 1st Tuesday of the month, and
periodically on the 3rd Tuesday as needed. Questions can be sent to Town Planner Niels
Tygesen and/or Town Supervisor Katelin Olson
If you or someone you know is interested, please submit a volunteer application. The positions
are appointed by the Town Board.
