IN THIS WEEK’S ULYSSES NEWSLETTER: Water Svc on Route 96 Mental Health Forum Opioid Funds Water Quality Report Funding for Mobile Home Owners Youth Employment Dog Census Food Pantry Time Change Historical Marker Unveiling Takin Care of Tburg session Community Chorus Fairground Maintenance WATER SERVICE ALONG ROUTE 96: The town is hos�ng a Public Informa�on Session on Wednesday, May 31 at 6pm at Town Hall on a poten�al water line extension on Route 96 between the southern village line and Cold Springs Road. Property owners along that corridor and any interested members of the public are strongly encouraged to a�end. The Town's engineers, MRB Group, will be providing an overview of poten�al routes and preliminary cost es�mates. Under New York State law, water district costs are paid for by those in the district and not Town taxpayers as a whole. The mee�ng will be available via Zoom and will be later posted on the Town's Youtube channel. Relevant documents will be posted in advance of the mee�ng on the Town's website. COMMUNITY FORUM ON MENTAL HEALTH: A community forum to address mental health in our community will be held on May 23 at 7pm in the Fellowship Hall at 69 East Main St. Some of the discussion topics include: What can we do to promote our own mental health? What are warning signs of deteriora�ng mental health in ones we are close to? What can we do in the event of a crisis? How healthy is our community? At what age do people first experience mental health issues? Are these different between children and adults? The event is free and all are welcome. HELP DISTRIBUTE $700,000 IN OPIOID SETTLEMENT FUNDS IN TOMPKINS COUNTY: The Tompkins County Opioid Task Force is seeking community input on how best to use funds distributed to the County from recent Opioid Se�lements. A survey is now open through May 29 for community members to share input on how $700,000 can best be used in Tompkins County to address the issue of harm from opioids in the community. TOWN HALL CLOSED 5/18: Please note that Ulysses Town Hall will be closed on Thursday, 5/18 for annual all-staff training. The training will cover a variety of topics including sexual harassment, workplace violence, civil rights/discrimina�on, ethics, and cybersecurity. WATER QUALITY REPORT FOR ULYSSES: The Bolton Point Annual Water Quality Report (AWQR) for 2023 has been released. The report is applicable to Ulysses Water Districts 3 and 4, which receive water from Bolton Point via the Town of Ithaca. HOME IMPROVEMENTS FOR MOBILE HOME RESIDENTS: A new program from Sustainable Finger Lakes will help 50 low-to-moderate income mobile home owners in Tompkins County upgrade their homes with high-efficiency heat pumps and electric panel upgrades. These home energy improvements can provide income-qualified mobile home residents with year-round comfortable temperatures, healthier air quality, long-term affordability, and an alterna�ve to fossil fuels. This project is funded in part by the Tompkins County Legislature via the Tompkins Community Recovery Fund. YOUTH EMPLOYMENT: The Town of Ulysses is now accep�ng applica�ons for the Summer 2023 Youth Employment Program for Trumansburg/Ulysses area teens aged 14+ who are first �me job seekers. Those hired will earn NYS minimum wage at a local business or organiza�on job site including Taughannock State Park, the Trumansburg Library, Trumansburg Village Office, Trumansburg/Ulysses Summer Recrea�on Program, Wide Awake Bakery, Sweet Land Organic Farm, and more. Youth who’d like to par�cipate should complete the application, and a parent or guardian will need to fill out the parental consent form by May 20. Youth will par�cipate in a brief ini�al interview in late May or early June, followed by an interview by a poten�al employer. If hired, work will begin a�er comple�on of necessary paperwork and an orienta�on session to be held in late June or early July. Unfortunately, there may not be enough jobs available for all applicants, so filling out the applica�on does not guarantee a job. A wait-list will be kept for those that are not placed this year. In the first phase, we are trying to get as many folks as possible to respond on-line. This will help cut down on mailing costs. Please respond at https://forms.gle/PmQ49SPsvESGZind9. If you have a dog that does not yet have a license, complete the form at https://townofulyssesny.gov/__cms/docs/Dog-license-form-2022.pdf and return along with rabies/spay informa�on. Any dogs found to be unlicensed as of June 2, 2023 will be assessed a $25 census fee in addi�on to the usual licensing fees. For informa�on, visit https://townofulyssesny.gov/departments/dept-clerk/clerk-dog-control/ HISTORICAL MARKER to be UNVEILED AT TRUMANSBURG’S AUSTIN HOUSE LANDMARK: The Village of Trumansburg announces receipt of a grant from the W.G. Pomeroy Founda�on of Syracuse to place an historic marker at the Trumansburg home of William Aus�n at 34 Seneca Street, at the corner of Bradley Street. The public is invited to a ceremony and unveiling, at which some short remarks will be offered on William Aus�n’s history. This event, to be followed by a brief recep�on with light refreshments, will be held at the former Aus�n family home, on Saturday, May 13 at 11am. Everyone is invited. William Aus�n (1832-1909), a New York na�ve, was an aboli�onist, Civil War veteran and prominent Tompkins County lawyer. His former home is built in elaborate Second Empire style, the only such example in Trumansburg, and listed on the Na�onal Register of Historic Places. Aus�n is buried in Grove Cemetery. The village hopes the public will join in for this ceremony of commemora�on. For more informa�on, please contact: S.K. List, Village Historian at skl@lightlink.com or 607-387-5627 TAKIN CARE OF TBURG: Takin Care of Tburg will hold its first session of the season on Saturday, May 13 from 9-11am at the children’s village on Main Street to clean up that area as well as other sidewalks and green spaces on Main Street. No experience or commitment is necessary and everyone is welcome. Please bring your own tools (brooms, rakes, etc.) if you have them. Subs�tute flower box waterers are needed and can sign up at the Saturday work sessions. All sessions will be on the second Saturdays of the month from May through September. Main Street Flower Boxes will be assembled on Thursday, May 18 th at 5:30pm at the Farmer's Market. Pizza dinner will be provided. Bring garden gloves. COMMUNITY CHORUS PERFORMANCE: Trumansburg Community Chorus will be presen�ng their first concert in 3 1/2 years on Saturday, May 13 at 7pm (not 7:30pm as previously noted), and Sunday, May 14 at 4pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 69 East Main St. Trumansburg, NY. The concerts are free and open to everyone, however dona�ons are always appreciated. The theme for this concert is Sing of Peace. FAIRGROUNDS CLOSED: The Trumansburg Fair will close the fairgrounds for maintenance from May 22-29, 2023.
