The correct info is below. The Harmful Algal Blooms in Cayuga Lake are unpredictable and come and go. Many people have reported that the water in their area of Cayuga Lake is clear of HABs, but it's important to observe the lake first before going in. Remember, the recommendation from the Tompkins County Health Department is to wait 12-24 hours before swimming after the water has been clear of HABs. To see the most recent HAB status in Cayuga Lake, or to report an HAB: The Community Science Institute (CSI), Cayuga Lake Watershed Network, and Discover Cayuga Lake are working together with volunteers to monitor multiple locations in the lake. CSI, shares this data with NYSDEC which then reports on their state-wide reporting map. The fastest way to know where blooms are occurring is on CSI's Cayuga Lake 2019 HABs Reporting Page to see a map of the lake with bloom locations. If anyone in the Cayuga Lake community thinks they see a suspicious harmful algal bloom, use the Community Science Institute website to report it,or email to to habshotline@gmail.com. Do not submit to the DEC because CSI will do that for you.
