20. 'HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE:
This impressive structure, although in need of maintenance, is a very
good local example of the Italianate style in residential architecture.
It is notable for its richness of detail: the variety of brackets,
lovely porch and bracketed window hoods. The structure has been sub-
divided into apartments for at least 25 years. It was the home of
the parents of Mrs. ElFreda David Dumont Dower c. 1900-1925; Mrs.
Hower later acquired ownership of the house. Fred Holman, railroad
station agent in the Village, was a resident of the house prior to the
completion of his own house in 1927, the present Dr. Smith dwelling
(79 E. Main St.),
The section of the lot just east of the structure was the site of the
Methdd'ist Church. he building was sold to the Catholic Church in
1856 and moved to Wtig Street.
