Ulysses Town Board and Planning Board
Zoning Work Session , May 10 , 2000
Present : Doug Austic , Carolyn Duddleston, Rick Geiger, Lorren Hammond , George
Kennedy , Dave Tyler, zoning officer Alex Rachun and county circuit rider Karen Flores .
Absent : Rose Hilbert, Paula Horrigan . Budd Stover . Andy Hillman, Sue Poelvoorde,
Bobby Weatherby .

The meeting began at 7 : 35 p . m . George handed out a list of possible priorities for
the Intermunicipal Organization and asked for input from the planning board . Carolyn
shared a copy of the zoning change regarding double - wide manufactured housing being
considered by the Town Board . The public hearing for the change was set for June 6th
The Board discussed the reasons why the original moratorium idea would not work and
whether the change under consideration would have the desired impact . There was
disagreement over the intent of the zoning change .
The Board began to review section 202 but decided to wait until the mapping
group had completed their work on the different residential zones . Karen reviewed the
goals of the different commercial districts as described in the comprehensive plan. The
group moved on to section 203 . There was a discussion of the intent of the Cl tourism
zone . Doug disagreed with the description of a pedestrian tourist district . The group
discussed the intent of Cl and agreed that it should be primarily a residential district with
some tourist businesses allowed but designed to fit in with the residential character.
Karen suggested that perhaps a tourism overlay district would be more appropriate . She
agreed to research information on overlay districts .
Karen suggested the group complete more of the mapping before going further
1; with the text . Karen suggested that signage , parking . and landscaping requirements
needed to be worked out for each district . George said the mapping group would be ready
I to discuss their progress at the next meeting . Carolyn and Doug agreed to meet to work
on the commercial mapping . Carolyn and Alex also suggested taking another look at the
current ordinance and working on the trouble spots . The next meeting was set for May 25
at 7 : 30 p . m . The meeting ended at 9 : 35 p . m .
