HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-03-01 - MP TOWN OF ULYSSES MASTER PLAN COMMITTEE MEETING MARCH 1 , 1994 TOWN HALL P RESENT : CHAIRMAN GARY MEYERS ; MEMBERS : JOANNE MOLINO , RUTH KAHN , CATHERINE STOVER AND DAVID TYLER ; SECRETARY : ROXANNE SMITH The meeting came to order at 7 : 40 PM . The Members discussed whether they had enough data accumulated to do the outline for Topic IV - Population and Housing . The Members decided that the Town o f Ulysses Census Capsule was a good start . The University pop - u lation skewed many of the figures . The Members discussed Tom King ' s presentation from the Tompkins County Chamber. of Commerce . David said he was a little d isappointed . They don ' t know enough about why Skaneateles is t he way they are , and why Ulysses is the way it is . They haven ' t done their homework . Ruth said that she didn ' t agree with their approach to achieving success in tourism . People who have successes have a business that sprang up and had a lot of community support . They had something unique , wonderful and spontaneous . She dis - agrees with his approach . You gather all the information , figure it out , plug it in , build the right facility and bingo , you ' re a success . There ' s a critical mass , or chemistry that is needed said David . Catherine was amazed at the amount of money that is involved ( through collection of the room tax ) . David regretted Tom ' s lack of a definition of a " centerpiece " ( an attractor to a community ) . Ruth mentioned the Christmas craft sale and its h uge success . She stated that we ought to think about how we are perceived ( as an artistic community ) . The statement " the U niversity over shadows any " centerpiece " that we could have " was attributed to Tom King . Roxanne made copies of the Tompkins County Planning Depart - ment ' s Census Capsule on the Town of Ulysses , Village of Tr. umans - burg and the narrative that accompanied them . Sue and Joanne ' s e fforts on the population breakdown ( age groups ) have been con - densed on to one sheet which Roxanne also made a copy of . ( All Members will receive this information . ) After much discussion Ruth said she would take on writing t he narrative for. Population and Housing ( Topic IV ) . The outline will be taken from the existing original Master Plan outline d raft . David suggested that most , if not all the information n eeded could be culled from the handouts . The next Master. Plan Committee Meeting will take place March 8 , 1994 at 7 : 30 PM at the Village Hall . The Planning Board will be joining them . The meeting adjourned at 9 : 05 PM .
