Good news came for the Town of Ulysses today from the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council. In
July, the Town applied for funding to purchase a 32 acre parcel of wetlands, mature forest, and access to
Trumansburg Creek. The $57,205 grant will preserve the land for recreation and assist in the protection of the water
quality of Trumansburg Creek as it makes its way to Cayuga Lake. The land straddles the municipal boundaries
between the Village of Trumansburg and the Town of Ulysses.
Grant funding has assisted a number of efforts moved forward by the Town of Ulysses. A $40,000 grant from New
York's Cleaner Greener Communities funds is paying for a review of the town zoning. Approximately $811,000 will pay
for the majority of the proposed sidewalk construction in the Village and Town on South St., Lake St, and Route 96.
Construction is expected to begin in 2017. Another grant from Tompkins County generated from hotel taxes of
$14,500 was used to build a website of existing outdoor recreational trails throughout the county. The website is nearly
complete and will be available for the public to use in early 2017.
That's a total of ~$922,000 and the Town is mid-way through an application for another $750,000 to assist with
drinking water quality in Jacksonville.
We will continue to find ways to provide services without increasing property taxes
Faithfully from your municipal team at the Town of Ulysses.
