Special Town Meeting on Exxon Mobil Properties in Jville

The Town of Uly s ses will hold a Spec ial Town Board meeting t o c onduc t a Public I nformation Ses s ion on Tuesday, April
18, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Uly s s es Town Hall at 10 Elm Street to t alk with residents and decide whether to purchase
three properties in J ac ksonville from Ex x on Mobil.
The Town’s 2009 Comprehensiv e Plan included the goals of historic preserv ation and revitaliz ation of J ac ksonv ille. The
Town learned in 2013 that Exxon Mobil was interes ted in selling the properties it purc has ed in the late 1980s as part of
the s tat eapproved plan t o c lean up c ontamination resulting from a Mobil Oil gas oline s pill that occurred in the late
1970s. Sinc e the properties include an historic building lis ted on t he Town’s Inv entory of Historic Buildings , t his
repres ents an opportunity for the Town to acquire this unique 1827 struct ure. After conduc ting a number of tes ts on the
s ites t o determine that the parcels are s afe to redevelop with some restric tions, the Town entered into negotiat ions with
Ex x on Mobil to buy three of t he s ev en properties for sale.
The Town Board is holding this Public Information Sess ion on Tues day, April 18, 2017 t o outline the terms and
c onditions of t he propos ed sale and t o ans wer questions from res idents about potential future us es of t he properties.
Res ident s unable to attend may submit questions or comments to the Ulys s es Town Clerk no later than 12 noon on April
18th. Af ter discus s ion wit h t he public, the Town Board will review any potential env ironment al impac ts resulting from the
s ale and then will dis cuss and may v ote on a resolution to authoriz e the purchas e at this meeting. The meet ing and any
v ote to proc eed is c ontingent on Ex xon Mobil’s final approv al of the negotiated cont rac ts, whic h t he Town ex pec ts to be
forthcoming.
