Requirements to Register to Keep Chickens

1. I agree that I will only keep up to 6 female chickens on a lot with a square footage of more than 2,000 square foot.
2. I have read and understand Article lV of Chapter 164 of the City of Ithaca Municipal Code entitled "Backyard Chickens" that provides detailed requirements for keeping chickens in the City of Ithaca; as well as states the penalties for any violation of those requirements.
3. I understand that my property is required to have the following 'Property Class Code" in order to keep chickens in the City of Ithaca 210, 215, 220, 240,250, or substantially identical successor designations. information as to your property class code may be obtained by contacting the Tompkins County Assessment Office at 607 -274-5517 or by visiting their website at http://www.tompkinscountvnv.qov/assessment and choosing the option for "lmage Mate Online".
4.I understand that this registration is valid for the duration of time that I am keeping chickens. As a courtesy, if I am no longer keeping chickens, I will notify the City Clerk's Office so they can update their records. The Cornell Cooperative Extension can assist in re-homing chickens if necessary.
5. I understand that 3 or more complaints can result in a revocation of my registration, as determined by the City Clerk, in consultation with Cornell Cooperative Extension staff and the Ithaca Police Department. Violations of the City's chicken keeping legislation constitutes a civil offense enforceable by the Ithaca Police Department.
6. I understand that any questions I may have, or my neighbors may have about general chicken keeping and management will be directed to the Cornell Cooperative Extension or on The City of Ithaca website.
7. A $35 registration fee will be required.
