The City of Ithaca Noise Ordinance requires that a Noise Permit be issued for the following conditions:
A: Where a sound source is planned, installed, or intended to be installed, or modified by any person in a mannerthat such source will create or is likely to create unreasonable noise or otherwise fail to comply with the provisionsof the Ordinance.B: Where any person uses or plans to use sound amplifying equipment in such a way that equipment is or will beheard outside of any building between 10:00 p.m. of any day and 7:30 a.m. of the next day.C: Where any person uses or plans to use a public address system that will make sound outside of a building.D: Noise Permit Applications shall be submitted at least 72 hours in advance of an event.
By clicking the "Submit" button below, the applicant agrees to comply with all New York State Laws and local ordinances. It is understood that the Applicant is responsible and accountable for all the actions of the guests at this event. The City of Ithaca reserves the right to bill the applicant for any damage to city property, or additional services provided by city staff including clean up of the area.
Approval of amplified sound or other noise sources is conditional upon the sound remaining at a reasonable level given the nature of the event. Complaints about unreasonable sound levels may result in a request to reduce the volume level and/or an order to immediately remove the sound source.
This permit only applies to the City of Ithaca Noise Ordinance and does not exempt anyone from the requirements of Section 240.20(2) of the Penal Law of the State of New York, “DISORDERLY CONDUCT,” which provides that a person is guilty of disorderly conduct when, with the intent to cause public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creating a risk thereof:… an individual makes unreasonable noise.
IF APPROVED, THE ORGINAL OR A COPY OF THIS APPLICATION AND PERMIT MUST BE PROMINENTLY POSTED AT SITE OF EVENT
